Consider my case -
i have only trained fo one race, I have over 100mil sp, and I have industry 4 and minin 2 as my only pve skills (not even salvaging or hacking) and I still have not bothered training the laser specs to 5. There has ALWAYS been something better to train.
Yah, there have been a few occations in the past where the spec skill may have saved me - but the other skills I have trained have a higher return. The only reason to train the spec skills is if you want to tell people about it. ----

Edited by: Cpt Branko on 11/04/2010 13:42:51 Old question of whether to specialize in something or train for something else. If you spend a ton of time in a single ship, then training to squeeze the last few percentages of performance out of it is a good idea.
For instance, I've trained medium AC specialization V and am considering either Gallente Drone Spec V or Minmatar drone spec V somewhere in the near future, and I have 36M SP at the moment - but I spend 90% of my time in a BC, so it makes sense for me after I've trained all the other various supports to V (bar AWU V, I have it at IV and everything fits with a bit of grid to spare).

Edited by: Whitehound on 12/04/2010 08:54:40 I consider training any skill from level 4 to level 5 to be a specialization in the skill as it takes more time to go from level 4 to level 5 than it takes to go from nothing to level 4. Training a specialization skill from level 4 to 5 is its mastership.
If you train specialization skills to a level of 4 then you want to master it, too.
Since you mention these skills being on your "road" did you find the answer for yourself: Yes.
Your question is: should I train something else before I train them to level 5? - I think you should, but it depends on what skills you already have. What do your defensive skills look like? --

Confirming that AWU V is worth its time for big PG users, I trained it on 2 characters (going for the 3rd now) and don't regret it a bit. A whole new kind of exotic fittings suddenly becomes available. Sometimes even just "fittings that should be possible by default but aren't" (ie 8 x 1400mm Maelstrom + x-large SB and AB or similar) - Auditing & consulting
