Hi Iam nearly ready skill wise to fly a carrier but need to read up on any tips or help with what mods. to use. Is there a forum link or an Eve tutorial I can read. Thanks for any replys

fit shield and armor tank, would be a shame to use that much hp. dont bother with repair mods. Resist and plates/extenders all the way
they're pretty good for solocamping gates. go kill all those noobs who think they can kill your carrier

Please do not listen to this person.
What are you going to use your carrier for? If it is for alliance combat then any alliance that is worth anything will have regular training runs on how to use a carrier properly, and if you have a good FC, then everything will be laid out for you directly. If you are not in an alliance and are just looking to have one keep that isk in a secure location, if you ever need the carrier then use it to buy one, otherwise keep it out of the money pit.
Also you can find numerous good fits on battleclinic, and there was at one point (although now a bit outdated) a good 20-30 page of text compiled into a .pdf document on how to properly fit and fly a carrier, as well as what you always need on it.
Speaking of always need on it, Isotopes... Do not make that mistake or be that guy in fleet who says "Wait! I do not have any fuel to jump with you before this angry gang of 50 BS's comes down on us", and keep some stronium for the poor dread pilots who run out :)

You should get comfortable with the carrier on the test server prior to using it on tranquility.

this.
always keep fuel not just in the fuel bay but the hanger as well, I personally have an emergency stack that I never touch unless I hit that "omg" moment.
