Would you kill all that you kill now or just kill for profit/vendetta or only join in for good fights etc. Would you bother podding noobs?
From personal experience, destroyers, frigs, shuttles, even the humble rookie ship, have all dropped something valuable in the past. I've killed and podded just for laughs, or for tears (with alt) but I have to confess to killing ships that I wouldn't really bother with just for the killmail epeen stroker. eg. killing a noob BC in a frig just for the killboard points. Nothing valuable dropped, there was no ill feeling towards the noob BC pilot. I just wanted to post that killmail and bathe in the lol comments from my peers.
TL;DR Killboards fuel violence.

If you killed a noob BC in a frig for the KB points, you also gave him a much better fight than if you had ganked him in your BC.
So, killboards promote good fights.

Killboards wouldn't make much of a difference to me for solo/small group pvp consisting of random engagements.
Where they would make a big difference though would be wardecs. Lacking a way to get a solid picture of what sort of damage was being given/received would be frustrating. It's fun demand a ransom from a corp, then when they respond with the usual "we don't negotiate with terrorists we're gonna kill you all blahblahblah", come back to them after twice the ransom amount in damage is inflicted, link them the killboard, and then let them know that they'd have been better off had they paid the ransom and it's now been doubled.

Happy days, down there in Hrokkur. That kill wasn't about killboard padding though, just clearing away the trash

Nice one sigash. I kind of miss you guys, much more fun than the current moon farmers in that system.
These days, I tend to use thrashers whenever I can be bothered to probe down a noob missioner. It's more sporting, and gives more points

Just imagine.

ive never posted a kill to a killboard, but most corps ive been in do it automaticly thru API but i could care less about a record of the kills or losses it's 'just a game' and im only here to 'play'

Yes.
You never know what you get. Even noobs sometimes carry good stuff on their crap ships - probably not realizing how expensive it is. I remember when I was pirating in a Rifter and I go for a 4-5 day old Caracal, the guy drops a IFFA which was 25-odd mil at the time; probably picked it up off a rat and fitted it to his ship.

KB's are the last thing I think about when jumping into a fight. A KB is a stat or tool, nothing more. If you let KB's dictate your fight, then the KB stops being a useful tool because you are no longer dealing with real stats but rather fake padded stats.

The OP mentions that killboards promote violence. The bottom line of this game is PVP. Killboards are just part of the fun that many pvp'ers enjoy. It also provides good source of information. Some don't like using them and that's ok too.
