Bemmo.net goes one more step in being a better and better resource for your cross region market browsing needs and now features the Implants category. And as always, still looking for feedback

Apr 25th, 2010 The End
As of today, Bemmo.net will no longer be updated.
It's been a great run but unfortunately there was not enough interest in it to justify the maintenance costs.
:(
What does this mean, is the site going offline ? or it will stay online in the current form but just that no new features will be implemented?

Damn shame, I work in Business Intelligence and was real happy when i discovered this site. But now its getting shut down.
You should contact someone like Chribba and see if you guys can arrange something to keep the site alive.

Exactly! It's so much better than eve-central. Perhaps woddel from eve commander is interested? To me it seems not much needs to be done as the current features seems to work really really well.

That's really too bad! One problem might have been that it was too good. I know for sure I refrained from promoting it because I wanted to keep the info there from reaching too wide an audience.

It looks like a great deal of the source code is there in the page...with a 'view source.'

You really had to make it even harder for me, don't you?
The site in it's current form and with the data as of 25th April should be up until 13th May (when the new bill hits ), afterwards I don't know as I have transferred control of the hosting and names to the person who deserves to have the site in his portfolio as it was quite some work involved in it. Unfortunately it seems that aiming to have the best data possible it's not really "wise". With a site like eve-central, you encourage others to use it so everybody gets access to more data. With a site like bemmo, you keep it low profile cause the data is already there. Tbh I didn't saw that one coming The biggest problem however, for me, was updating it. It was very very time consuming and at the end of the day, there was no gain. And I don't mean a financial gain. I mean looking daily at the traffic stats and seeing that the site just can't get where you want it to, serving at least hundreds of players, if not thousands. So you end up with putting a lot of work into something that's been used by a very small number of people and losing money while doing it
Anyway, thank you for the kind words from those who actually ended up using bemmo, sorry to disappoint you but I had to move on.

This is why I decided to cancel some project of mine like yours, EvE has a strong economy but is not aimed at being played as an economy driven game. It's a sci-fi game and the player base don't go really beyond that and beyond using what's provided (market, contracts etc.). The finance people are few, so few that I'd be lucky to get 20 (twenty) hits a day on my project site.
Why bother?
On the other side, you could do like I did: turn your attention to RL, I am sure some analysis sites could use your skills.
Furthermore, I have a more constructive idea. You could do like I and Block do for our sites.
1) Create free account on 000webhost.com 2) You'll get the ability to create something like bemmo.comlu.com, that is no real need to pay for a DNS service. 3) Redirect current DNS to the new site, If you still want to keep the name, otherwise just put a warning of change to the new URL + HTTP redirect from bemmo.net. 4) Leave the site over there, as long as someone uses it everynow and then, 000webhost won't delete it.
This would let your hard work not go lost.

That's a good tip which i hope is followed . Such a shame, sites like this make EVE come alive.
What i don't understand though is what kind of daily maintenance you need to do. i mean, as long as the code is up and running it should be relatively maintenance free right?

If I'm not mistaken (and please correct me, if I'm wrong), bemmo.net didn't use the "user uploads data" approach, but rather did it themselves. Depending on how they did that, this might take some machines in an "always on" state.
Besides that, Tyrannis will bring new items to the market. Data that also needs to be added to apps like this. Although that happens only twice a year, someone has to do it. -- EVEWalletAware - an offline wallet manager |
