Edited by: Sergeant Irol on 11/04/2010 10:55:40 I've looked in the forums for a correct answer but got tired after reading 20 pages so I ask it here.
someone stole ore from my can while i was right next to it. The guy fills his ships cargo, drops his own can and then fills up his newly born can trough cargo swapping. This is a very typical move which I fully understand. At least I was smart enough not stealing it back.
Problem is I had more than one full can there so I expected to see more than one enemy can but that didn't happen. It seems that my ore disappears into some sort of 'invisible' can. I've noticed this before but I have no clue how people do this.
I asked the guy how he does that (you never know) but unfortunately he was more concerned about his ego so no adequate answer from him.
I write some of my thoughts below so you know better what is really bothering me.
1. If you drop a can you must wait about 3 minutes before dropping the next one so even if invisible cans exist he couldn't rip away all my ore with a frigate.
2. He could have used a cloaked alt but AFAIK cloaking is restricted to certain types of ships from which none has big cargo.
3. There was nobody else in the belt; the thief had no fleet/corp members squeaking at my back.
4. Maybe he runs 25 alts, all of them cloaked? there was quite some ore stolen.
5. Is there a skill that makes cans invisible?
6. AFAIK ships decloak when they do an action but I saw no other ship there.
Would like to read an answer here.

Did the ore go into his cargo hold?

1. AFAIK, there's no such thing as an invisible can, or at least there's not supposed to be one. 2. While it is possible for ships with big cargohold to cloak (like industrials and transports) AFAIK there is no way to take from cans while cloaked, or at least there's not supposed to be one. 3. AFAIK there's no skill to make cans invisible.
The only way I could see this happening is by some extreme use of Grid-Fu, as most things not in your grid are invisible to you, but I think this is extremely unlikely.
This leads me to believe that either the pirate was using an exploit, or you are wrong in your observations or missed something in them.
If you think it's an exploit (using grid-fu to do this is perhaps considered to be an exploit), inform CCP.

what is grid-fu? It's not in the glossary ![Confused](/images/icon_confused.gif)
I wish I could say I made the wrong observation, but it happened right in front of my nose and there were very few objects in my overview, impossible to miss another player's starship.
I'm a bit baffled cuz exactly the same thing happened the week before, small frig steals full can in less than three seconds without dropping a can himself.

Is it not more likely he just flipped one of your cans and then shot the others? You realise when most people do this they have no interest in stealing your ore, they just want you to make it safe for them to attack you. |

Interesting.
- You don't have to swap ore through cargo, you can just drag&drop it straight from one into the other (just FYI, it doesn't explain anything). - There are no invisible cans. - You can't cloak within 2500m of an object (and you need to be within 2500m so you can access a can), so no way he got 30 alts hidden at the belt nomming away at your ore. Pretty neat idea though ![Cool](/images/icon_cool.gif) - Grid-fu doesn't make any sense at all whatsoever for liberating ore. - It's impossible to shoot yellow cans without being concorded. I assume he didn't suddenly turn into a wreck? ![Laughing](/images/icon_lol.gif)
If the cans were indeed full, I'd be very interested in knowing how he did that to.. ahm, protect.. my own jetcans? yeah, those. Never would do that flipping thing myself. ![Embarassed](/images/icon_redface.gif) ![Embarassed](/images/icon_redface.gif) ![Embarassed](/images/icon_redface.gif)

From what I know people that can flip have no interest in the ore, they merely want you to some PvP.
So in all likelihood he merely trashed the ore that couldn't fit in his one can. The ore doesn't mean anything to your opponent. |

Edited by: ISellThingz on 12/04/2010 11:57:38 I kind of fail to understand the OPs problem.
You don't have to transfer the ore trough your cargo hold when transfering it between containers. You pick as as much as you want, jettison it, and then drag the remaining ore to the newly created can.
You say you had more then 1 can, but how much ore was there in each can?

I would echo the 'how much was in each can' question.
A standard jetcan holds up to 27,500 m3 of stuff, no matter what ship it is jettisoned from. If you were filling up your hold and then jettisoning a can each time, none of those cans was actually full. The flipper could transfer all of the ore from your cans into his one can with no problem.
If all of your cans were actually full with 27,500 m3 of ore and he didn't destroy your other cans, then I don't know what happened to them. -- Man With The Plan, Starbase Setter-Upper, Doesn't Like Bunnies |

tnx for all the answers I think he found a way to destroy the cans without me noticing it.
as previously mentioned the object is to bait me into PvP, the ore is a small bonus.
FYI it was two full cans ![Embarassed](/images/icon_redface.gif) , I was just turning to get my hauler.
I took my precautions now.![Idea](/images/icon_idea.gif)

I dont think they want PVP, if they wanted PVP, they would go into low sec unless they are pansies and afraid they might geta boo boo going into low sec? I like PVP until ppl refused to one v one me and instead call in mommy and daddy when they get to structure and gang up on me. meh.. on the subject of cans
I almost exclusively jet can mine in high sec. I have 3 accts (2 miners, one hauler)
all warp into same belt, I go one round, jettison, split ore leaving 1 unit to keep can up.. hauler is always with in range to immedietatly transfer the ore from can to hold.. works like a charm. when i get an orca- well, bye bye jet cans :P

Re-read the OP. He is questioning how the can flipper was able to stuff multiple full jet cans into a single jet can - which shouldn't be possible. ----------
