Edited by: Iluwen on 12/04/2010 15:49:21 Edited by: Iluwen on 12/04/2010 15:48:37 Hi there!
I am rather new to the game and have only ~1,8 million SP right now (Drones Lvl 5, the other basic stuff on Lvl 3). Right now I am running Lvl 2 missions with my Thorax cruiser.
I have been reading a lot about tanking, fittings etc. and came up with this fitting for my soon to be Myrmidon. The low-slots hardeners are fitted to a mission against the "Mordus Legion" (70% kinetic, 30% thermal dps) and would of course be changed according to the opponents I¦d face.
I usually fight this way: I take out as many frigs as possible from 40-13km, If some get closer than that (and my big turrets miss), I let my drones deal with them. Against larger ships (cruisers right now in the Lvl 2 missions) I fight at ~35km range with my turrets and my drones.
It would be great to get some feedback on the following questions/issues:
1. Does the fitting make sense? If not, what should I change?
2. How would I fare in Lvl 3 (or even Lvl 4?) missions with the fitting?
3. Is it corret that my Myrmidon would be able to "tank" 236 incomming dps without getting blown up? (sustained defence because of the repair module)
4. My current Thorax setup has 103 dps and it takes forever to kill e.g. a corelum guardian chiefprotector. Are ~180 dps (with the perfect drone setup) enough for lvl 3 missions?
5. I found this page with information about missions, opponents and their dps.
The "max dps" in that mission would be Missions Step 2 with 198 dps (50% em/thermal). Does this basically mean, even if I aggroed all the ships in that stage at once, they would only deal a maximum of 198 dps? Thats before my reistances apply, right?
From what I understand, I would be able to fly basically every Lvl 3 mission without any problems with that ship+fitting and maybe even some Lvl 4 missions?
Any help and advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time! |

Edited by: Magne Charle on 12/04/2010 17:04:51 The Myrm is fine for level 3s. Your setup looks ok, just lose the mag stab and add another MAR if your tank breaks in any mission. Also, decide if you want to do mainly drone dps or mainly gun dps. Drop either the omni or the mag stab for either more tank or more cap recharge. IMO another hardener for secondary damage done makes more sense than a DCU on a pve fit, the DCU is great for 50% resist on your hull, but you shouldn't get into hull in missions anyways.
As your support skills improve you can slowly fit for more gank than tank.
I wouldn't bring a heavy drone though. 5x light for frigs, 5x mediums for anything else works fine.
Also, don't overthink stuff and spend more time in EFT and with a calculator than playing the game ;) Missions aren't that hard, it's not rocket science.

Try to carry a set of small drones with you (can save your ship if you're scrammed), fit 6 guns on there (downgrade to 200mm), the storyline repper can be replaced with T2 and start upgrading everything to T2.
Replace the damage control with another magstab once you feel comfortable in L3s

An alternative to 2 MAR's is 1 MAR and 1 SAR for when you need that little extra tank. For L3's 300dps tank should be fine. Also an Energized Adaptive will help more then a DCU until you get 3+ hardners on there. One can argue it is better for missions unless you find yourself hitting structure alot (Which you WANT to avoid)

Edited by: Zhilia Mann on 12/04/2010 20:22:33 Finally I'm first to this.
Don't bother with a Myrm. It gets no gun bonus. It can't field a full set of heavies or sentries.
There is no reason not to go straight to a Dominix for a drone-centric pilot. So just do it.
Reasons:
* The Myrm has no gun bonus. Fitting mediums on a Domi works exactly the same. * A Domi tanks better than a Myrm despite the bonus to reppers. * Both the Myrm and the Domi cost more or less nothing after insurance.
And yeah, the Myrm looks better. But if we all chose ships on looks everything would be a Nightmare, yes?
Edit:
If for some reason you still want a Myrm, try this:
Quote: [Myrmidon, fmp mishin] Armor Thermic Hardener II Armor EM Hardener II Medium Armor Repairer II Damage Control II Heat Sink II Heat Sink II
10MN Afterburner II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II

Zhilia speaks the truth. If you CAN afford a Domi to run L3's in then yes it is a better option then a Myrm. The larger drone bay will benefit, the extra grid, overloaded tank, mids to play with drone upgrades, etc works out nicely plus you can slap any medium guns on there you want.

Gonna echo the Domi suggestion. most L3's can be run in it and nothing says you have to use big guns.
When I first started doing L4s I ran a domi with Dual MARIIs and medium artys to kite while drones did their thing.
Once you get proper T2 armor skills it's tank is epic. It's nice in L3s, most gates pass it (and those that don't you can tell and decline) and since half it's DPS comes from drones you can just use light and Medium drones for frig and cruiser sized targets which you'll be carrying anyway even when running L4s. So even once you get large guns on it you can skip swapping to mediums guns and still do l3's quickly. Or you can just load up with tractors and salvagers and loot and salvage while your minions do their thing.
The ship is just versatile as all get out. It may not be the best at any one thing but it can do so many things well that it more than makes up for it.
The only bad thing I can think of is that the only step up from it for a drone/turret user is the Navy issue (which is a nice step up with an extra mid more drone bay, more PG and tons of extra EHP)
Of course it does have the draw back of many people thinking it's ugly (I like it but I'm weird) but as was pointed out in the Ode to Ugly ships if it were better looking it would probably be over powered.
