3 Months ago i started doing missions to have a income after some bad times and defeats . L1 to lv 3 went smoothly with assultfrigs and battlecruisers so no problem there, Then i started with lvl 4 Since i only trained amarr ships till now i decided to get my self a abbadon for lvl 4 missions
To make a long story short, almost every mission ended in the near loss of the ship and losing time repairing hull damage, even asking for advice for good mission fits the ship kept failing me Till a week ago a corpmate adviced me to use a apocalypse instead, so i did and behold it is not the missions that are hard, its the ship , Missions that used to be hard to almost impossibe, are now relative easy I am using a stock apoc with 8 mega pulse ( t2 version still 2 weeks training) a ab and 3 cap rechargers in the mids, lows are 2 heatsinks a LAR and mission specific hardners, everything except the high slots t2 and rats specific t2 drones.
So am i the only one who thinks the abbadon is not worth the pricetag and looks like a pregnant hippo or am i doing something wrong with the ship

apoc - range. better cap stability abby - pure damage, pure tank. lolcap
(note, all t2/light faction) For reference - if i must mission, I currently run a cap boosted pulse abby. Seriously. I have no problem dps tanking (yarr moar heatsinks!) and rarely need to run the booster/rep, save for damsel-type missions.
apoc - I could see the bonuses here, better range, better cap stability lets you run a pulse fit easily. I guess? 25km pulse optimal sounds nice (if ive done my math right), but you need scorch ... my abby hits around 50k with scorch for insane damage, and I couldnt see missioning without it.
If anything, the abby should be easier to use - its got a far better tank (+5% resists/level), and can more easily dps tank (+5% damage/level).. apoc can only do better because your 'wasting' less slots on cap stability, and gaining slightly better range-tank ability

You don't give a fit, you don't give your skills, and you don't say how you were flying it. As a mission boat for specific amarr enemies I think the Abaddon rocks, you just have to be massively aware of your cap usage which gets a little tiresome at times. And for a T1 non-faction BS it's damage is absolutely nuts, so much so that most of the time I don't get round to turning the armour hardeners on because it's not taken armour damage by the end of the mission. And it's not even cap stable with just the guns with MF.

Edited by: ThaMa Gebir on 13/04/2010 07:05:37 No. The abbadon needs good skills to effectively do level 4 mission.
It is a very nice ship but if you are not careful (like you get too much aggro at once) you may well find you have too little tank. However (!!!) if you are very quick with killing stuff, then mostly you should not need to tank as much.
TL;DR- Your tank is DPS in an abbadon. ----------------------------

Abaddon can run missions much faster than an apoc (dps tank), but u need t2 pulses, and perfect capacitor skills. Also amarr bs 5 recomended. If u are not that good on skills, apoc might do the trick better.

Edited by: Julia Venatrix on 14/04/2010 00:43:36 If you have level 4 in Large Pulse Spec backed with perfect engineering, gunnery support, and spaceship command skills, the Abby is great. 8 T2 pulse w/NavyMF or Scorch, triple faction heat sink and a tracking comp means that you pwn rats mightily, often before they close into their own range.
If you are not at so exalted a level, you don't have enough cap to last as long as it will take you to kill the rats that are able to chew through your tank, and it's better to kite them with an Apoc. Just don't get caught up close, your tank is still pretty thin if you fit enough heat sinks to reach out and touch people. --- Some days you are the pigeon, and some the statue. |

Train for a Paladin and you get the best of both worlds. You get Abaddon DPS and a far better tank, combined with the Apoc's cap stability.
The only thing you lose out on is the range bonus and that's not really noticeable anyway. Downgrading to weaker crystals gives you the same range and damage as you'd get with the Apoc using stronger crystals; if your skills are maxed out and you use the same damage mods, the Paladin does the same dps at the same optimal with Gamma L as the Apoc does with Multifreq L. -- Eventus stultorum magister. |

I fly an Abaddon with T1 guns and it works perfectly fine. Some missions I fit 8 mega pulses, others I fit 7 mega beams. Your lows are the exact same as mine, and I use a tracking comp instead of an AB.
The problem with T1 mega pulses is that their damage is insufficient beyond 30-40 KM. And a lot of rats are comfortable at 50KM.
If you are going into hull on a regular basis, you are doing something horribly wrong.

Abaddon is a tier 3 ship for a reason, meaning it takes high skill set to fly effectively, not just when you get Amarr BS to lvl 3. However, when you do get the right skills for it, it is one of the most deadliest BS's in game, passing even the feared mega.

Try an apoc with 8x dual heavy beams, not alot of kick to them but the cycle time and range bonus are almost like using pulse lasers with scortch. I prefer to use gamma crystals with 2x tracking comps with optimal script (3 heatsinks, cap relay, 1 therm/em hardners, 1 LAR in the low) and can reach out to 51 kms, most rats are in the range using everything with lesser range and more damage ammo until your hit by tracking disrupters . I switch to multifreq crystals and swap to tracking crystals when BS get around 30 kms or 2x optimal script for the slow 40km orbiting ones.

Do you match resists and look for spawn triggers?
