In the event of a tie on the scoreboard, the teams are ranked based off there last fight, and your ranked higher basically the more you lost in your previous match?
Did I hear that correctly? |

That's what I heard too. Aparently the more ships you lose means you lost to a stronger opponent ..or you sacrificed ships to a weak one that could not kill you, just to get more points and make it look like the team you dominated actually wasn't that bad. (as we have seen already). |

Quote:Pre-Qualifying Rankings
If at any point, teams are level in Win/Loss and also level in points scored, the following will be used in order to determine ranking position.
If the teams disputing rank have fought each other at any point, the winner is higher. The current ranking (W/L, then points) of the last team that you defeated. Higher is better. The current ranking of the last team that defeated you. Again, higher is better.
The tiebreaker is how high your opponent is ranked. So if you lose more **** to your opponent, they will be ranked higher. |

So this basically means, if you win, but lose all but a frigate, thus giving the other team 48 points, your ranked higher than a team that only gave the previous team say 10 points (assuming they havent fought before). |

Only when there is first a points tie,
For example, to decide who advances to group stages:
Team A has 1 win and 1 loss and 101 points Team B has 1 win and 1 loss and 101 points
and they're both tied for 32nd place, only 1 goes to group stage! Oh no what do we do?
That's when we look to see whose opponents were ranked higher |

Unfortunately, this is correct.
A few people now have raised this issue, and we've watched self destructs in the arena as a result. CCP's AT staff has a lot of stuff to balance to get this running.. but here's one case where they didn't realize the implications of the tiebreak conditions. I can only hope that by next year they realize the problem and change the tiebreak tests. |

I much prefer the 'How quick did they finish the team off method' it is unlikely that 2 teams win in the same time and rewards the teams for performing well. |

If two teams have the same # of wins.. whoever dispatched the opponent faster seems to me to be the stronger team and vice versa for their loses.. whoever survived longest in a loss is probably the stronger team. Also a team that has a huge point differential between what they scored and what ships they lost is a pretty good indicator of the stronger team. This giving up ships for points thing just seems wrong. |

It's as Zastrow said - a tie is broken based on the ranking of the team last played. You can see this playing out during the tournament here:
http://at.eve-ic.net/10/index.php?view=rankings&tab=pre-qual2
This page shows the current rankings along with the ranking of the alliance each alliance last played. You can see a few examples of ties being broken there already - look at the alliances with 62.5 points. |

That's actually not what the rules say. The rules say that a tie is broken first by the rank of the last team you defeated, then by the rank of the last team you lost to. That is not the same thing as the rank of the last team you played against. |

You're quite right, sorry - this is what I get for posting while busy!
As you can see from our page, the site is actually doing this, hence the two columns. Unfortunately it's a slightly complex concept particularly when you get into a tie being broken by two alliances that themselves were in a tie break. Coding it was similarly headache inducing! |
