Hi,
I read some guides and the stickies here but I didn't find an answer to this question I still have: recently I learned that range and tracking of POS batteries is measured from the tower, not the turret. If I understand this right this means POS guns can be considered (for better imagination) as fitted directly on the control tower.
This might be ok for large and medium batteries...but a small auto battery has an optimal of 10km without bonus...and even with, its not enough to hit a ship outside of the shield of a large tower!
What did I miss? Thanks for any insight. -

Edited by: Desigre on 15/04/2010 05:02:14 Well they do have accuracy falloff range too. And since they recomended for minmatar towers that has range bonuses for projectile batteries.
pos battereies usually dont operate on optimum range, since anyone bashing it would be sniper settings most likely to keep remoterep ships just outside range of guns.

I can confirm that my Small AutoCannons have destroyed several frigates, destroyers, and even a Retriever on my large Domination tower with a 30 km bubble. The small artillery never had a chance to fire, nor did any of the mediums.
Blasters have a real problem on anything larger than a small tower. (Railguns are fine for range, but have horrible tracking making projectile sentries superior).
Don't expect POS stuff to be balanced. It doesn't have to be.

Gallente tower has a 25% damage bonus.
On the 'con' side. Hybrids hit on 2 damage types, Projectiles hit well on 3, and hit in part on all 4.

Well Amarr and Minnie towers have a range bonus. Caldari have RoF and velocity bonus, and Gallente have
Quote: 25% bonus to Hybrid Sentry Damage
So I'm rather puzzled why no towers have a hybrid bonus when Gallente towers do infact have one, unless you meant range bonus.

My fault for not being more specific in a thread about range

I'd never heard that range / tracking was based upon the control tower in the past. Can anybody confirm 100% that this is true?
Also, I read in another location that the Range component of ammo (I.e, long range ammo compared to short range, Antimatter vs Lead, Emp vs Carbonized Lead, etc) does not affect POS Batteries, whereas damage does, meaning all turrets should be loaded with antimatter, fusion, or multifrequency. Is this true?
I'd just like some confirmation from somebody with more knowledge then myself :)

You must be new here.
Check the forum sticky for the POS fitting thread started by Fitz VonHeise. Although ammo damage testing has been done a couple of times before, in this that thread you will also find tracking testing, and an exception to the distance-from-tower rule.
The testing is near the end, but it is a worthwhile thread to read completely... probably why it got linked in the sticky!

Ah, thanks for pointing that out. I've read his thread a number of times, but never bothered to read it all the way through. That's the info I need.
