Hey I'm considering a Golem for running level 4.
The thing is, I already own and fly a tengu, with all Subsytems V and a faction shield booster/BCUs.
But I don't have any skill trained beyond III with any battleship specific skill, including Caldari BS.
Also a good golem is going to cost a bundle.
I was wondering if it was worth the isk and the training time? Any thoughts?

though im still a noob, the 40 km tractor beam + speed bonus is a turn-on for a golem, enough to make me plan to switch to caldari, and theres a video on youtube of a guy running L4 angels/blockade/damsel in golem, it looks speedy and fun.

Confirming the Tengu is a mini-marauder.

Before thinking about hopping into a Golem first get Torpedoes to V and all missile support skills to atleast IV __________________________________________________

If you run a lot of missions then yes the golem would be a good thing to get into. The BS skill, cruise/torp skills, and target painting (very important for the torp golem) will also serve you well in other ships in the future.
Not all missions will be faster in a torp golem than your tengu but most will, plus the ability to salvage the majority of the BS wrecks during the mission means more income if you normally don't salvage and if you normally do afterwards you wont really need to since almost anything of value with already be looted and salvaged.

To go along with this , some other skills I found beneficial: Multitasking 3 - Make up for long lock time Signature Focusing 4 - Paired with Marauders 4 you get around 45% on a TPainter

40km tractor beams on a Tengu cost you a low slot, leaving you with "just" three lows for BCUs. And the Tengu is a tad shy on high slots and cargo space to justify a mini-marauder title.
The Golem is very skill intensive (lots of Vs to make it shine.) If you can use a high quality agent and get a good lp conversion, the Golem might not be worth it. The big deciding variable is how much isk you can earn from the Golem's looting ability.

A golem will net you about 10-15 mil/h additional income depending on the missions you receive and the salvage you can get. You will however need a lot more skills for it to work like that, as some folks mentioned already. Calculate with at least 1,5-2 mill sp in drones, maxed torp skills and support, signature focussing 4, salvaging preferably to 5 (since most folks use 2 tractors/1 salvager), marauder skill at 4 at least (better get 5 as well) and obviously good allround support skills. Also I feel that getting a (lg) crystal set is more important in a golem than in a tengu (the latter will simply speed/signature tank so much dps that its tanks doesn't really need that boost). Also be aware that the changes to mission loots in tyrannis might affect these ratios a lot. If I were you I'd probably max my missile and tanking skills further and wait till we know more about those changes.

The T2 ROF Rig Variant of the Tengu is pretty much on par with the Golem when it comes to killspead, and has an advantage if you go for blitzing missions for high value LP. However if you rely on loot/salvage for income, golem is superior.

Tengu can travel faster to gates & speed tank without the need to have really expensive tank mods on-board. On the down-side, it eats up ammo a lot quicker, which can be annoying if tech 2 HAM ammo is expensive.
