This is just about an old topic as it can get but i have a question,
I know that most of the scams composed by these people are not a bannable offense they just prey on stupidity, but what about the ones that use others names to make their scam legit? I talked to 5 people who were mentioned in a jita scammers comments in local, is it possible to file a harassment claim against this scammer?
For example> Scammer: [Name Of Person] Just Sent 15 million and received 30 back!!
I would not want my characters name being involved in a scam thats ripping off the community and feeding upon stupidity. All of the people i convo'd said they did not want him using their names to better his scam, I'm surprised the gm's have not done more to clean up this mess in jita with the suiciding contracts money transfer scams and cash selling site advertisement.
I also know even if gms go after these scammers, the scammers just send the money to another account, so why are the gms not tracing this isk exchange and checking the IP's for similarities to confirm its the same person playing the bait and switch.
I remember when jita was a cool place a long ass time ago, now you have everyone in their mother trying to bend you over a table every chance they get with exploits and lies.
Maybe its time to give a little more power back to the players CCP and get rid of these dimwits who are preying on newcomers/gullible players of eve-online.
If you have a legit way of ripping someone off and it works for you more power to you, but it crosses the line when you bring other peoples names in a smudge their appearance to better your scam, and then spamming the hell out of jita local.

I agree with you 100% sir. HOWEVER, you will get flamed and little or no support here as most of the forum Ho's are scammers, macro scammers/macro miners/macro ratters etc.
They were ALL visibly invisible in Chribba's thread about Jita Scammers/Macro Scammers.

As a native Glaswegian, I take offense to that - we are FAR more cunning and devious than plain con-artists!

the best and only solution:
whenever in jita local - you get 3 right-click-menu options:
- mark as scammer
- mark as dirty scammer
- mark as filthy scammer
and so if a person gets 100 "scammers" it gets (only in jita local and trade channels) a prefix to its nick like:
SCAMMER WARNING Radix Salvilines > 306mil plex buy order
100 "dirty scammers" would make the nick flashy-red
100 "filthy scammers" would change the scammer's character image into this:

If that happened, I would encourage everyone I know to mark absolutely everyone as a scammer.
Then I'd go on scamming.

The players already have the power to be not stupid. I, myself am stupid since I fell for scams twice in the last couple of months for a loss of 1 bil in total.
That said: impersonating someone elese is AFAIK forbidden. try to petition is, maybe. But unless it's chribba or someone else good known by the community (and you checking twice his name), there is no reason why anyone would try to impersonate anyone pretty much unkown in the first place.

It still Amazes me to no end that people go to Jita, read local, and either get offended or scammed. Unless you are at war, why the heck do you even have local open in Jita?
I know nothing of these scammers because I know the lot of them are just that. I close local and do my business. I suggest you do the same m8.
If you are looking for a deal on contracts, search contracts, NOT LOCAL!

actually, from what i have seen a few (most?/some?) of the scammers do a few legit doubleing of isk and use the names of the people who's isk was doubled. personally if i like the guy's ad, ill send 10k-1m just for coming up with a good ad, and i have yet to not get 20k-2m back. they use my name in their scam message and it does not bother me since they DID double MY money, what is done in the future is not my concern, and him just using my name does not tie me into being responsible for you sending your isk in.
and scamming is not against the rules, gm's dont care about it, and have at times encouraged it. that said, i have never scammed and never will, but using my name is free game if you have infact doubled my money

If the the GMs aren't answering petitions, wouldn't it be a better idea to have them answer petitions, rather than sit around and monitor something that's not part of their responsibility?

How about local chat just gets disabled when over 200 people are in system? Is anything worthwhile ever really said when 200 or more people are in system together?

I've trolled many a merc out of station dock from local smack in trade hubs. Nothing hurts their pride more than deccing you, learning you can fight them quite a bit more than they expected, and subsequently being trapped in station as the 'target' does the camping.
