I only know one other person IRL that plays EVE, so beside that one person, most people just don't "get it." Either they are in the WoW generation, or believe that paying a subscription based game just isn't worth the money.

Lucky people to have loved ones who support your hobby. I don't think I've ever seen a person hate something as much as my wife hates EVE. I have to hide it as if I'm looking at **** every time she walks in the room--tab out and go back to a browser window.
And lest people think I have some kind of unhealthy addiction, I'm lucky to get in 2-4 hours a week. My wife plays more Farmville than I play EVE.

It's not so much all the crazy things she has said, which are many, to include things about I should have married Eve. It's really my stock responce to her. "Ok babe, I hear yea, but you have a choice to make love. It's either Eve is my girlfriend on the side, or I quit Eve, and go down the street and find myself some little blonde named Mary or something to replace her with!" Generally this has worked well, and the few times she told me to sleep somewhere else I just stayed up late with Eve and slept on the sofa. Fly safe, keep it in perspective, and live a good life.

My daughter goes absolutely crazy when I play eve. The colors, the movement, the sounds... she's 6 months, so yeah, that'll do it.
My GF couldn't care less. At least I'm not nagging about the dull tv-shows she's watching.
Usually I get a bit of aggro when I hop on comms and turn the TV sound up, saying she can't hear it anymore (she hardly listens, reads the subtitle's).
Never really had any remarks, except for a friend of mine who went: DANG THAT IS ONE FRIGGIN COOL GAME!
He played for 2 months, then gave up because his Rokh got blown up in a wormhole, right at the shards of his Drake :P

Great Thread!!
I started playing eve when I was 16, (no idea how I made the monthly payments but somehow I did :|) At 16 I got nothing but <insert negative word> about playing EvE From all my family, I believe the hardest and most annoying thing I tried to get across was that there is no PAUSE.
Family Member: <myName> Dinner is ready!
Me: Sure 5 minutes just need to park
Family Member: Just hit Pause and come down now
me: There is no Pause
Family Member: PAUSE THE GAME AND GET DOWN HERE
The only time I have been able to get this message across to family/gfs is if they play an MMO themselves. So far I have got my sister in to WoW, Aion, but she will not touch EvE (I got her ExBf in to eve and he well went a little over the top). My X used to tell me to pause the game all the time,
Look there is no Pause, its real time so I can not get up and come running when you decide to call out my name for some random reason AND THEN get annoyed at me because I can not be there in less than 2 minutes.
Living solo now, Much easier

I tell my girlfriend about what I am doing in Eve fairly often. It is a lot like talking to a dog about anything. She has no earthly idea what I am saying, but rather just seems to enjoy the sound of my voice. (For those that might find that statement offensive, consider that she does a better job of feigning interest in Eve than I do when she talks about girl-stuff like shoes, emotions, and social interaction in general.) She responds appropriately to my stories ("aw, that sucks" when my ship gets blown up) most of the time, or at least gets a good nap out of it.

This is is wayyy too familiar. Fortunately, after my little bro (Brother #2) got on Xbox live, my parents have finally figured out the no pause button. 'Course now if dinner's ready my Dad likes to "reset" the router "accidentally".
Also, one time I found my brother begging in corp chat for isk, when I left EVE for bio break.

After 5 min.
She: "Do you play this this this whatever again?"
Me: "I just finished, I go and brush my teeth"
Two days later she killed my pc, reinstall everything, you know what i mean.
While playing eve again.
She: "What do you want to eat" (from the kitchen)
Me: "What?"
She: "Eat. Pizza. Chinese?"
Me: "Order whatever you want"
She: "No. We go out to eat."
Me: " I¦m in the middle of an engagement, order something."
She: "No.Let¦s go." I got disconnected by her using the "power button"
Last weekend i had to go "wellness weekend" with her. Got full room aggro when wanting my laptop with me. SHE HATES EVE!

This is when you have to grow up and make it clear to the selfish, shallow, useless hag that the world doesn't evolve around her. Imagine what she's going to be like when you two get married or have kids. I have no respect for men who are this weak, you deserve it.
"Are you fighting?" and "How much money have you made?" are the two questions I get asked continuously. Also "When are you getting your Nyx?"
My wife sits next to me, behind her PC, and watches films and series, while I play EVE and before she watches something she knows I'm going to like she asks whether I'm fighting and that's usually the only thing my wife says about EVE. Oh, and she wants to see me flying a Nyx, because she loves that ship.

Divorced wife, married Eve, son and I are much happier and healthier for it. 
Son made me resub WoW though, since for a 7 year old, EvE is just a bit too tricky and there is no way for him to pwn scrub NPC's in EvE the same way he can in WoW. I think that says all that needs to be said about WoW.
"Daddy, when is it my turn on your computer? I'm setting a timer on YOU!..."
He also knows how to read the UI to see just how many jumps I have left, and often says something like "Daddy, in (x) jumps, is it time for dessert? . He doesn't like mining ops at all (lol). Don't blame him there. Just glad my corpies understand RL comes first and if I don't make it for the scheduled stuffs, it's because I happen to love my son more than EvE.

Awesome thread though, loved the wife shouting at the smaller ship!
Currently single so I don't have much to add. My last GF didn't care about EVE one way or the other.
Then again I keep the fact I play a secret. Not even my roommate knows, because I'm very sneaky sneaky.
Though for the GF RAGING about Eve...I wouldn't put up with someone like that for an instant. In fact, whenever I start a new relationship (a rare occurence), I give a little speech that if the girl EVER tries to whip me, I'll dump her on the spot. Last relationship I had I did this for lasted 3 years,  and we broke off because of long distance
