So I'm reading up about the Caldari-Gallente war a bit, and I found the timeline here showing the start date of the war as 23155, and the end date as 23248, and a current date of 23341.
The war, according to the time line is over, but the Cal-Gal conflict seems pivotal from an in game perspective. I play a Gallente, and missions are all the time given against Caldari NPCS, and with the faction wars, they are free to shoot at each other on sight.
I was looking for more background info into the current state of those relations.

Edited by: Culmen on 20/04/2010 00:50:24 The answer is there were two wars.
The old one. Which can be thought of as the Caldari War of Independence.
And the new one, the Empyrean Age War.
The runup was covered in the Empyrean Age novel by Tony Gonzales (reading it now for kicks)
The flash point came when Alexander Noire tried "docking" his super-carrier at a Caldari Station. (specifically Ishukone Corp HQ in Malaken). Bear in mind super-carriers can't dock. Much reference to September 11,2001 occurs and the Ishukone CEO got perma-killed.
There some RP fluff that it was not actually him, but some mysterious figure of mystery called "The Broker".
Then Caldari invaded Gallente and took back Caldari Prime. Then the Caldari Militia blobed their way to domination, but got pushed back. Then everyone stopped caring....
Thats pretty much it. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

Actually, the EVE galaxy is in a state of hot cold war, so to speak, where incursions and skirmishes are kinda encouraged by all sides, as long as the politicians can deny knowledge or involvement or save face somehow. It's not all-out war, but life is cheap and they don't really care about border fights or bombing a few planets from orbit, if they can get away with it.

For fun, fly to Caldari Prime (in the Gallente system of Luminaire which also contains the Gallente homeworld) and check out the Leviathan NPC titan hanging over it (only one in highsec). During the first day after the empyrean release there was such a crowd attacking it the nodes 2 systems around almost flatlined. Good times Every now and again there is an attempt to destroy it which fails, but is pretty kewl.
We'll get it yet Sol: A microwarp drive? In a battleship? Are you insane? They arenĘt built for this! Clear Skies - The Movie

Woah, I'm going to go there tonight. I have yet to see a titan in person.

In fact, the last attempt to destroy it was last year (i think), but thanks to the RR f***** from from I-Red, and there where lots, it did¦nt work.
I hope the next attempt will include a lot of gankers for the remote reppers and than we¦ll have a look again.
I (my main) will be there!
