As the name says.
What is the serious difference between FW and normal PvP other than the obvious of being at war and hated by 2 opposing factions.
We have ranks and titles, New chats and mission givers.
But which is in all honesty more enjoyable to do??

One doesn't necessarily exclude the other. Not really sure what you mean by normal PvP though. Pirating? Can Baiting? War deccing? 0.0? -Jin Nib Trading on behalf of Opera Noir since: 2009.03.02 03:53:00

well 0.0 PvP I still want to keep a good sec status.
to above poster, War decing is if you declare war on another corporation and you can kill them visa versa.
No real difference in 0.4-0.1 except for rats (computer pirates).
Players will still F you up, none the less I am looking for a new edge to this game.
I mine full time for 8 hours a day (afk mine while I am at the office) and then relax and mission at home with my wife.

Well FW has no real vested interest. You basically fly around looking for a fight with other people who are doing the same. Its doesnt matter if you win or loose, you can do it when you want and do other things if you don't want. In other-words its what you make of it, and no one's going to be breathing down you neck because you aren't making the cut or didn't show up for some CTA announced the day before. You're not going to loose sec status or get fired on by gate guns (unless you decide to go pirate too and enjoy the best of both worlds :P). I find that it's a relaxing way to get fun PvP.
Really unless you are looking to PvP for a purpose, then FW is pretty good it's value added, because all the other types except 0.0 sov and alliances are still available to you. Even then you can still roam about 0.0 enforcing a NBSI policy wherever you happen to be :D. -Jin Nib Trading on behalf of Opera Noir since: 2009.03.02 03:53:00

well here's my story, I was in the same position a few weeks ago but after joining the cal-gal FW i really enjoy it. if there aren't any fleets up you can always go out in a ship and look for targets to shoot at or you can even just bring a group of equally bored people to go shoot things =) well that's my opinion and good luck with choosing
cheers Goa

What do you define by normal pvp? Going pirate? War decs? 0.0 roaming? High sec ganking? 0.01 trade sniping? Your question is a little non-specific.
If you are interested in learning about FW then there are plenty in this forum who can help though.
As a basic bit of info. If you sign up to a militia you are legally at war with 2 other factions. So its like a great big free wardec. Last time I looked that would put you at war, for free, with around 10k players although you will see much less than that practically out on the field.
Most of the fighting takes place in low-sec systems so there is also plenty fun to have with local/visiting pirates as well as your usual war targets. Whichever 2 factions you go to war with will have npc ships shooting you if you enter their high-sec, even so fighting can spill into highsec either through organised fleet raids or crazy mofos who just go in for a bit of solo ganking.
"Plexing", a capture the flag type of affair, takes place around the official low-sec FW systems. Whilst currently yeilding little in the way of practical rewards it can, and does, offer plenty of pvp opportunitys. If you want to know more on that im sure someone less allergic to button orbiting can go into that for you.
Yep you have a shared basic intel channel and access to FW missions.
The real benefits in FW however will (and this is just my opinion here) only come to you once you build up trust and rappore with your fellow militia members/corps. Having great people to fly with, a nice choice of decent FCs to choose from and access to well planned and executed ops is a great side to FW - but this does not get handed to you on a plate when you sign up. As with all things in Eve, trust and friendship takes time.
Obviously if you are happy to run your own fleets and do your own thing then perhaps thats less of an issue for you.
FW, and ones experience in it, is largely defined by who is flying in it - both on your enemy side and your own allies.
As for what can be found on the field. Well, I've seen everything from T1 frigate fleets to Titans.
Here are some not too out of date numbers on whats been blown up:

Well, I've long had reservations about FW, however earlier this year with CVA coming under siege and overpirating on our side (before other pirates also started showing up even) we were noticing a substancial dip in targets, gone were the days of catching marauders / faction bs's every day.
Therefore we took a tentative step into FW, it was a bit of a shaky start but since then we've gone from strength to strength, I've got to admit it's been a change that's been very much to our advantage; we're in a far larger pocket of lowsec than we used to be which directly connects to lowsec in all 4 empires so we've still been actively pirating outside FW area, however we are also actively partaking in FW these days too.
It also has the added benefit of my other director being allowed to roleplay, which leads to much grief as he's so bad at it
