So I'm not exactly a new player but I am new to PvP. I've done a little with absolutely no success. Every time I fly into low sec I'm always engaged by veteran players in Tech II ships. Are there systems I can go to find players more around my skill level or things I should look for in a system that might hint at newer player? I'm all for loosing ships for the experience but I would like a good fight too.

Edited by: Tobias Xiaosen on 24/04/2010 20:36:28 The best thing for you to do is actually join a PVP corp that is willing to train up noobs. The idea here is that while you're learning, bring some friends along that know what they're doing so you can learn from them.
Solo PVP is fun, but very difficult in EVE now. Going out to do it as a noob with little experience with PVP is not a really good idea. Not saying you should't do it, but you should learn the ropes of PVP before throwing ships away.
Like I said, best thing for you is to find a good PVP outfit in your area that doesn't mind training noobs for PVP. ~

Tobias: you say that solo pvp is very difficult (which, as a newbie, I have read elsewhere as well but have not tried out myself).
Why is it so difficult now (compared to the past)? And does it still happen, or is it close to extinction? Surely in nulsec it is not only corps against corps, right?

Solo PVP has always been rare simply because its a major risk. If you get in a fight solo 9 out of 10 times the person you targeted is going to call on their friends to save them.
If you solo PVP you will almost always be out numbered and out gunned. Which is part of the reason it can be ridiculously fun. I have yet to have more fun in this game than purposely jumping myself into a gang solo, decimating the gang and getting out without losing my ship.
But again, as a PVP noob the chances of you pulling off something like that are minimal.
A lot of people say solo PVP is dead. It isn't, just that a lot of people aren't willing to engage unless they have a lot of back up. ~ CURRENT INTERNETS = + 595635 |

This is the part where experience comes to play with it a competent pilot knows right away if his fighting against fail fitted noobs or veterans and knows to GTFO where noobs try and fight anyway and die. Also solo pvp in certain low sec areas is also quite dead when your drake gets hot dropped by 3 carries and a mom on a regular basis.

Start by joining EVE University, it is the first company you should join, they teach everything you need to know from mining to PVP. Do that and when you are done learning the game, every PVP outfit would be glad to hire you because of the EVE Uni. reputation of making good pilots.

Brakus touches on something important here. Being a member of a player corporation has excellent benefits and corporations like EVE University and Agony Unleashed pride themselves on training newer players in all aspects of EVE Online including PvP.
Factional warfare and Red vs Blue are also two excellent ways of getting PvP action quickly

Red vs. Blue can be a great way to learn if you like to dive into things head first. There are players at your skill level who you can fight one on one and win and be happy and veterans on both sides from whom you will learn a lot.
If you are cruising through lowsec, a lot of veteran players will give you useful advice afterwards if you ask them politely. |

Agony offers classes ranging for basic PvP to Advanced Tactics. Classes are open to the public, no need to join our corp. Just sign up when we open enrollment for a class (ISK charges apply). Right now we run a basic class about once a month, but that should increase during the summer.
Join our mailing list in-game to be notified when enrollment starts: AU_PVP_CLASSES Ask questions in our in-game chat: AU_PvP_University

I'm not sure I'd advise very new people (less than 2 months old) to go down the Factional Warfare route. I think RvB would teach you more of the basics you need to know at minimal cost. I'm in FW and you don't need all the plex/missioning stuff to distract you - people in RvB are usually willing targets, not always in FW. Go RvB first then FW.
I go to Agony classes myself so I'm probably a bit biased here. I do remember a certain (arranged) frigate fight between an Agony class and an Eve-Uni class that ended up a bit one-sided to say the least

hoo-ah! advertisement from a dev!
But seriously, if you're an Utter noob at PvP, Red versus Blue is a great place to start, you'll get lot sof fights, get some good experiance, and we usually fly more "reasonable" stuff for a noob in a T1 frig to fight than the Vets out in lowsec/nullsec.
In game channel's "R-V-B" join up, play with us for a couple weeks and learn the basics. then if you decide you want to go play with the big boys in FW/Lowsec/Nullsec go nuts
