I need some clarification on this please. I heard that if I was to light a cyno, say using a badger just out side a pos shield, and then once the carrier was safely through and in the pos could i or could i not use another ship to bump the badger into the pos there for making it safe ?? some ppl are saying yes some are saying this is a bad thing punishable by account death. Sorry if this is in the wrong place but im new to the forums :) Cpt Mirage

When a ship lights up a cyno, it becomes immobile and unable to do anything outside of tank locally (armor/shield rep self) for 10 minutes.
Now, you CAN remote repair the cyno ship... but generally it's not worth the risk to your cap ship. Hence, why many cyno pilots perfer small, easily disposable ships for cyno duty. _______________________

I'm not sure if there's any punishment or anything, but I have seen it done. In the specific case there was someone that lit a cyno in a mining frig and had a friend in a Rifter standing by to double web the Rorq and Thanny that were coming in. Afterwards the Rifter pilot was bored and decided to have some fun and try to ram the cyno ship into the bubble, which worked perfectly. To my knowledge there have been no repercussions to either party.

What if the situation was reversed. A dread is in seige mode and gets locked by a POS and cannot move. It would be fine to bump it out of range then surely, since it cannot come out of seige mode. I would think this is the same, except you are pushing TOWARDS the POS. You haven't gone around any mechanics - the cyno ship is still immobile. The fact you are moving it with another ship should therefore be ok since you are not doing to grief...

Confirming that i bump cyno ships into pos's regularly , the cyno stays up in the same place, and the cyno ship stays completely safe in the pos shields so stuff can still bridge in and jump in.

Edited by: Lord Haur on 25/04/2010 21:00:06 In before CCP add a huge mass penalty to cyno mods, much like the mass penalty for siege mods, to prevent cynoships being bumped.
edit:

But what if you are doing it to prevent your cyno ship being destroyed? It's a valid tactic to try and destroy the cyno ship before too much stuff jumps through. Why else do carriers carry cynos - so they can light a more durable cyno if they manage to jump though before the initial cyno dies.

Don't think there's an issue with this as I've got a couple of lol kills bumping a cyno frig off stations outside gun range for fun with an inty :P
So if it can be used against the cynoer, I suppose it can be used for him too. I've not heard of any repercussions against people doing either.

Its an exploit. File a petition and ask a GM. Lol. Yeah I am a pirate. What are you gonna do about it? http://www.wi-alliance.com/killboard/?a=pilot_detail&plt_id=32678 http://roadkill.igs-corp.net/?a=pilot_detail&plt_id=32678 |

if your main concern is the protection of the cyno ship by the POS shields, you can do the following trick:
fly towards the tower and hit the cyno just before entering the shield - if your ship has got enough speed (>300) and you time it correctly you'll have the cyno as close as possible to the POS shield and the cyno ship will stop inside it.

Well it seems im not the only one doing it and as far as i can tell its just the way of the game and seen more as a tacktic rather then a exploit. so till I get a DON'T DO IT from the eve gods im just gonna 'carry on bumping'
Thanks for your input guys and girls :)

Fyi, you can just get a fast frig, mwd up to the pos, activate the cyno just outside the pos shields and drift in... Just letting this one sink.
Also, if they add mass like they did to the siege module, this will still be possible, since after sieging if you weren't stopped, you gonna drift for a long time... :P

I remember long time ago CCP stated that MWDing into a pPOS and opening cyno at last moment expecting ship to drift into the POS WAS AN EXPLOIT.
Therefore on same logic, bumping into POS is an exploit. I already petitioned a few peopel doing it and got answers of the sort " thank you for informing us, we will investigate and deal with the issue.. is not out politic to discuss punishments blabla bla".
