are there any tips or tricks to scan down whs while in wh space. i have it filtered to cosmic signature but thats all about i can think of to filter out whs from other signatures. was wondering if anyone knows any tricks to make it go faster. scanning down 10 other sites just to find a wh can take ages.

lol. I have the opposite problem.. I am sick of finding wormholes while trying to pin down other sites.

Sigs are within 4 AU of a celestial. With decent skills and a cov op if you load up any given celestial with probes at 4AU range you'll get most of the sig types around there and can eliminate them right away.
There's really nothing you can do to isolate WH's in particular. Just go through the process of elimination as quickly as possible.

I read recently that wormholes will show up as an 'unknown' signature with less than 50% signature strength and have not seen any data to contradict that in the last few days. Can anyone confirm or deny this supposition?
Clarification: While scanning if you get an 'unknown' signature with less than 50% strength that indicates a wormhole. If you don't get an 'unknown' until sig. strength is higher than 50%, it could be a combat complex or a wormhole.

All Unknown signatures in w-space are wormholes.

This is false. WHs can be up to 6 AU from a celestial. I've personally been at a WH that was 5.9 AU from the nearest celestial (yes, counting moons as well). I commented on it to my CEO who was scanning and he too thought it was a ways away. WHs that are 5 AU away are not terribly rare tho and I've seen that quite often. All non-WH signatures are within 4.5 (or maybe even 4.. haven't looked that close) tho that I've seen.

I have the same questions as I'm exploring w-space for a home.
When I come into a new system or rescan the same system just on another day I do the following:
First I position my probes to encompass the entire system and then some, set the 32au. Scan. Write down all the unknown sig id's (first three letter).
Then I position my probes inline and overlapping to the top of my screen to the bottom of my screen but in the central plane of the system. Set to 2au and do sweeping scans across the center, left and right of the center. I only go as far out as I don't return any more unknown sigs. This has the advantage of identifying the Group Type for several sigs allowing me to eliminate them from individual scans later. I only identify the sigs down to their Group Type. Once I've found that I move to the next sig.
After that I set my probes to 8au, scan the center and work on individual sigs. Make sure you keep an eye out for any Group type of another sig you may inadvertently identify while focusing on a specific sig. I go from 8 to 2 to 0.5 (if necessary). I keep doing this always starting at 8au in the center of the plane.
After those are identified I go back to 32au and scan the rest individually.
It's still a pain in the butt. I have not found a better way of doing it.

Good to know, thanks!
I personally have never missed a sig with my technique but all that means is I'm probably due.

I recently added a section on how to scan in wormholes, it would help the OP, HERE
If it has a SAVE button...I'm not interested. |
