Hello,
Could somebody explain to me how jump clones actualy work and how you go about getting one. Im understand that if you are in your jump clone and you are podded, you do not lose implants. Is this correct?
The reason I ask is that I want to rat in low sec without the worry of losing implants as that would set me back quite a bit.
Thanks for reading.

Check out my guide to jumpclones, it explains everything. It's available in English (original, by Estel Arador), German (translated by Maglamoore Maraga) and Spanish (translated by Crassus Detlator).
If you decide you want to get a jumpclone you can use my service, it's free.

Yes and no.
Example:
Clone 1 has +5 implants, you want to rat without risk so you jump to clone 2 that has no implants. That is fine, however you have to stop training and restart training, which means your skills will take longer to train in the jump clone. When done, you jump back into clone 1 and it's back to normal.
Clone 1 has +5 implants, you want to rat without risk so you jump to clone 2 that you plugged +3 implants in to help speed up training while ratting. If you get podded you will lose those +3 implants in that clone.
Each clone is seperate and you can plug different implants into each clone. Whatever implants are in your current clone will be lost if you get podded.

Step 1: Find an NPC corporation that has medical services available and has agents that give the type of mission you want. you will be quite annoyed when you are at 6 or 7 standing and *then* realize that they don't have medical services on any of their stations. Once you find the appropriate corporation, run missions for a standing of 8.0.
Step 2: Set up your clone. Take care to NEVER log out your running pilot in the same station where your clone is parked.
Once done you can switch from your running pilot to your clone (instantaneous travel) once every 24 hours.
Reasons for having a jump clone: Operating in two distant areas of space, such as deep low-sec and high-sec without having to travel between the two. Maintaining one set of implants for faster training and another set for PvP.
My corp operates in Caldari and Amarr space, I am also 'shoot on sight' in Gallente and Minmatar space. With the clone I only have to make the trip once.

That's rather harsh advice, it would take weeks and lots of effort to do that, all just for getting a jumpclone. When using a jumpclone service (such as mine) all it takes is joining another corp briefly and getting all the jumpclones you want. It usually takes less than a day.
But I noticed The Bear08 already understands that and has decided to use my service

Where does your service operate? My primary can get clones on her own behalf, but to use corp standing for my alt a few people would have to be kicked.
I've also noticed that for most online games there is usually one method for doing things. EVE tends to have a standard method "or you can just throw money at it".

All over the universe. A list is available in the thread I linked to but to give you an idea: if you dock at a random NPC station with medical facilities there's a 75% chance you'll be able to get a jumpclone at that location using my service.

A nice observation and generally true, but my service is absolutely free (apart from the 100k NPC charge when creating a jumpclone).

Edited by: Collector Jane on 26/04/2010 17:22:41 Best thing to figure jumpclones out is to get them, and use them. Trust the good service of Estel Arador. It's a name I will never forget, and I always mention to people. I spent months in a corp where noone even told me about social skills, and grinded my way up to almost get a jumpclone.
Then I rerolled an alt, and decided that I will do anything just to avoid the mission grind for the jumpclone. Another reason was that with the funds I had, I started training with a full set of standard implants, so the option to have a jumpclone for the occasional lucrative low-sec areas was very tempting.
Anyway, if you want to enjoy basic jumpclone functionality without the other benefits of high standing with NPC corporations, use Estel's. It's free.
Why do I do this ? Because I believe in the game benefiting effect of his free jumpclone service. More confident people equals more opportunities for fun, and less grinding.
PS. this is an alt ... but I might even train her a few levels in Infomorph Psychology.

Indeed you are right Estel, I have used your service and I am really happy with it so thank you very much. How long did it take you to achieve these standings?
Also, to others that have replied, thank you also because I now understand the entire jump clone process...I think.

Edited by: Goa Vibe on 27/04/2010 01:43:36 Stick cheaper (expendable) implants in your clone that goes to 'rat' and you only need 2 implants. if you are mainly skilling guns, then use a will and a perc implant, no need for int/mem/cha in that clone.
The npc corp i skill up first had lots of offices scattered thruout eve, plenty of medical facilities.

Getting my standings took a few years, but that only accounts for perhaps one third of EACS' standings. EACS has also received standings upgrades from other characters who have spent lots of time getting standings. Those people often did those upgrades for free - just to help EACS - but if I had paid market prices for standings upgrades, it would've cost several Billion isk
