Hi guys,
Im returning to the game after about a 10 month or so break. No doubt since ive been gone the game has changed (bring back nano i say!), so im looking for some guidance on how to fly a scimitar in the modern game.
Ive seen several fits with an afterburner on attempting to sig tank- but i can see myself getting tackled at gates with only an AB fit, and to me the ship doesnt look like its meant to be able to tank very well unlike the guardian i was flying before i left.
Im thinking MWD and LSE is the way to go but i wanna know from people who fly them what works best for them. |

AB fits are not for general gangs.
You fly them just like they have always been flown - nano gangs still works fine as well, btw.
General fit:
[Scimitar, New Setup 2] Damage Control II Capacitor Power Relay II Capacitor Power Relay II Capacitor Power Relay II
Large F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction Invulnerability Field II Invulnerability Field II Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive ECCM - Ladar II
Large S95a Partial Shield Transporter Large S95a Partial Shield Transporter Large S95a Partial Shield Transporter Civilian Gatling Autocannon, Civilian Autocannon Ammo
Medium Ancillary Current Router I Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
You can opt for more cap stability (especially if you don't have Logi 5), but that's up to you. ____________ Intigo - go visit www.eve-arena.com for the best Battleclinic killboard replacement yet! |

The sig tank/AB fits work pretty well. WHEN you get tackled on the gate you will be able to last a bit longer than you think you can because of the small sig but you won't last the whole battle. When you take too much damage just jump though the gate and re-approach, re-join the battle. Annoying and shady tactic I know.
Of course this will not work when fighting large fleets because the incoming dps with be very high, but then again most cruiser hulls would not be able to handle that much dps. When engaging fleets of up to 15 bc and down then the above works very well. |

One thing people like to forget is that MWD have a sig penalty . A scimitar with AB will be able to run back to gate from ANYTHING but frigates. SO in low sec that is NOT an issue.
You can make a scimitar that can tank MASSIVE damage with active tannk and AB. THose are very viable in SMALL gang warfare where you are unlikely to be overtacled

And if you're the only Logi (in small warfare it often happens), AB and Large Booster gives you a really great tank ability, provided that you're not webbed and painted.

To ammar supremacist-this is pretty much what i had in mind civvie gun for km whorage i presume?
Good point about the sig bloom from mwd but when i inevitable get tackled and webbed down il offline the mwd if im not allready scrammed, if i aint tackled down i gues i can alway gtfo and warp off/rejump.
could you suggest an ab fit so i can have an idea how people work it with an ab?

I like this one for small gangs (4-10) high sec wars or low sec roamings, when it's the only logistic. Of course it depends a lot on what you expect to face and your gang composition. 65m radius, 930m/s, good agility, 330 dps local tank. Orbiting the gate at 40km missiles and BS guns probably won't hit you. Even with a cloak it locks quite fast, and in small gang you can have everyone locked, that's not really an issue. I sometimes even fit a disruptor on it instead of an Invuln, to jump and catch a target that jumped and try to escape (obviously, not when I have a cloak, usually)

If you have the isk, use a faction/deadspace shield booster 100-150mil range, makes a ton of diffrence.

Generally scimies are used in HAC gangs, where MWD is mandatory to keep up. _______________________ We come for our people! |

We generally use
3 pdu2, 1 cpr2 ab, 2xlse, 2 invuln 3 large reps and 1killmail ***** gun
if you need an mwd fit one and drop an extender for an eccm or even a scram.
The ab version tanks like a champ and will quite happily sit under the sentries alone in lowsec for a long time before its tank starts to fail.

I would really fit an ECCM, since you will be primary of all ECM on the field. Luckily these days it isnt needed anymore to fit dual ECCM.

I fly a lot of a "combat" scimitar, so, that there is no secundary logistics involved. Therefore the fitting I use is not the best tank, is not the best speed and not the best logistic, but manages to do em all. Sitting at work atm. so I apologise, if I remember something wrong:
Highs: 3x Large shield transporter II Drone link augmentor
Meds: y-t8 MWD 2x Invu II Med electrochemical cap booster ECCM - Ladar
Lows: Briefcase 3x PDS II
Rigs: Ancillary current router Semiconductor Memory Cell
Drones: 9x Warrior II (for km whorage, since the game mechanics is broken and a logistics is not included to kill itself)
I have an ehp of about 19k, speed of about 2km/s (heated nearly 3km/s) and pretty much of cap stability witch logi V. It only needs to be flown with care and in align all the time. I haveto warp off every now and then, cannot use the orbit or keep at range, but fly with my superior "manual piloting V" skillz ;-)
So far I have not lost a single one, most often beacause of my speed and agility and situational awareness. Few times a friendly rook has saved my ass, but I have escaped deeply in hull several times, so the briefcase really have saved my life a lot :)
In heat it provides 300 shield hp / second so it really is a nice tank to anyone I keep alive. The ECCM IS A MUST. First few fleets I had shield bots and a painter to km whorage, but quickly noticed, that without the ECCM i'm useless.

Edited by: Alsyth on 29/04/2010 10:24:04 Set your drones to assist a fast locking and long range thing if you're a killmail *****. I personally like to keep my Logi out of killmails.
And I rarely encouter ECM, so...

Edited by: Beltantis Torrence on 30/04/2010 19:13:11 IMHO all of the cap power relay fits are going to fail when you want to avoid aggressing so you can jump out (IE, you're on a gate at 0) or if there is a curse or neut fit fast moving BCs on the field. Given these two scenarios happen often enough I just go with a cap booster, LSE, MWD setup. Reps great, can deal with neuts, buffer tank is great, etc. AB orbiting around the gate is dicey if there are people in the enemy gang that aren't terrible at bumping and the paper thin setups or active tanking setups just can't soak up enough damage to stay on the field long enough to actually rep people.
Edited to add: THere's also the fact that without an MWD how do you keep reps on a tackler chasing down a vaga/etc? If you wait til he gets 150 off he'll die before you get reps on him. Have to keep up.
