I notice most people seem to prefer covert ops cloaking Blockade Runners ie.- Viator as opposed to Occator.
My experience is the single worst spot to be in is warping off a camped gate. Or warping off a bubble, or undocking. In that order. And everytime I've cloaked and roamed(t2 cloak) an industrial, just for sh*ts and giggles and got caught jumping thru a gate, I was bumped and de-cloaked very quick, quicker than I could have aligned and warped in a cov ops cloaked transporter anyway.
Seems to me a warp stab'd Occator might fly safer even though people seem to prefer cloaks, armor resists + repairer bonus + inate warp strength + 6 low slots for stabs looks like this could get out of some more common jams lots easier than the cov. ops equivalent.
Is the reason they aren't used much interdictors? How could one counter these, afterburners? What about some ecm + stasis combination? I'm couple weeks from flying either and wondering what's you all's experience?

Depends where you're going through. In lowsec, the warp strength bonus will get you through gate camps with fast lockers, but in null where camps usually rely on bubbles, the cloak helps more. You do risk getting bumped/decloaked, but its better than being bubbled and having to slowboat out while hoping they don't have enough points to overcome your warp strength/a dictor that can just drop a bubble on top of you.

The blockade runners have pretty much every advantage over the deep space transports. Blockade runners have more agility, can warp cloaked, and can be Black Ops bridged past gatecamps.
DST's only have the cargo size advantage. Resists don't matter much since that fatty isn't going anywhere if caught and still won't have enough tank to survive any decent camp. |

Edited by: Ephia on 29/04/2010 11:27:41 Cloaks are preferred because of MWD + Cloak trick (if it still works).
The sequence of events goes like this. After you jump and while gate cloaked, hit "align to" where ever you are going (gate or station), then hit your MWD, and then hit your cloak. You will align quickly, and be accelerating towards your warp point. As your MWD is about 75% complete in it's cycle, turn off your cloak, and hit warp.
When your MWD turns off at the end of the cycle, because your MWD isn't on anymore, your speed is now somewhere between 75% and 200% of top speed. Thus you Insta Warp as you de-cloak.
It is very difficult to catch people when they do this.
Think CCP fixed it on SiSi then changed their minds, but I'm not sure.

er, blockade runners can fit a covert cloak so there's no need for this trick. It works well on DSTs tho.

Stab is really bad for PvP. I guess only 2 ships in game could be made to actually have use of them in PvP.
Cloak can work for you, but it requires specific ships in specific roles. One example: vagabond working behind enemy lines as a harasser. _______________________ We come for our people! |
