Hello,
I have recently purchased a brand new CNR with all the fittings (to Liangs spec of course). While I had been using a Raven before hand to great effect, i've always seemed to think that I could complete the missions more quickly and efficiently.
My question is simple. How do you go about killing everything? At the moment I grab my lot of aggro and concentrate on the BSs with the cruise missiles and the frigates with the drones (Hobgoblin IIs). However i'm always finding that my drones end up getting attack by other groups of NPCs so I end up spending a lot of time recycling my drones between attacking and returning to my ship. This doesn't seem efficient to me. Should I be using my other set of drones (Bouncer Is) first to concentrate on the BSs?
Any help and opinions would be appreciated. To coin a phrase - I don't think im doing it (exactly) right
Thanks

Just make sure you get all the aggro and not your drones.
Wait until enemy ships lock on you and then deploy the drones. If a new wave spawns, recall drones, get aggro and redeploy them.

A lot of the missions I do tend to be all in one room, with multiple groups of NPCs which all have to be aggro'd seperatley. If I aggro'd them all at the same time, I don't think the tank will take it.

Before
1. Aggro group 2. Take out webbing frigates/towers with drones 3. Take out elite cruisers 4. Take out battlecruisers (optional) 5. Take out battleships (then finish with BCs, if you skipped #4) 6. Rinse and repeat
After
1. Take out remaining frigates with drones
A lot of missions will not have drone aggro, meaning if you pull a single group and unleash your drones, the rats that have not been aggro'd yet will not fire on your drones. This is dependent on the proximity of those rats to your drones however, as even an idle rat will fire on drones if they come within some range of them, so you just have to keep an eye out.
Personally, if I am pulling groups, I'll be all of one side of the room, or the other, that way my drones are +20-30km from any idle rats. However, I typically just pull the entire room anyways TBH, lol.

Be sure to have your drone settings correct. On the top left of your drone window you can set these. Set them to focus fire and to passive. Passive means they only attack what you tell them to. Aggressive: they can attack other targets after finishing their current (possibly aggro another group).

Don't be in a rush to get the drones out. Knock down what you have to of the first group to be able to aggro the next and do this until you've got what's left of the whole room on you, then start taking the frigates out with drones.
Also if you wait til the frigs are at very short range you should be able to set your drones on them without pulling other groups on to them/you. You may want to kill elite/scram frigates earlier, in which case you'll have to attack/recall as required.

Don't laugh but really, you can do pew pew while letting macro do the work for you
It's sad but true. You asked the MOST efficient way
(no I am not saying that you should try or use macro - dont you get banned)

Target speed can reduce missile damage, so if you're not looting/salvaging:
If NPCs start at a distance: 1) Shoot BCs/BS first. (This lets cruisers get into orbit and slow down to their orbit speed.) Most battleships are big enough and slow enough that speed won't reduce your cruise missile damage. (Angel battleships tend to be the exception.) Also, if you are in a Raven type hull, your sig is so big that you're taking full damage from Battleships, so killing them first reduces incoming DPS.
2) Shoot Cruisers second. They should be at their slower orbit speed, so your cruise missiles will have a better chance of doing full damage.
*) Drones tend to go after the closest targets. It may help to wait until the frigates are in close before setting your drones on them. That way that should auto-attack only the closest targets, which are frigates.
If fighting Guristas, kill any jamming cruisers (Annihliators, Nullifiers) first and then jamming battleships (Eliminators, Exterminators). Micro-manage drones to attack warp scramming and jamming frigates first.
If NPCs start close-in: 1) Kill battleships first, since you're taking full damage in a Raven hull. 2) Kill BCs next. 3) Kill cruisers.
Again, Gurista jamming ships and scramming frigates should take priority.
The exception to the rule is trigger ships. Pop them only when you're ready to handle the next spawn.

you don't want a raven, or a CNR, if you're looking for speed. Nightmare, Paladin, Vargur, or Machariel are the best mission speedboats. The goal with these is to do things the exact opposite of what we're saying. Target frigs first from range, ungroup guns, and instapop em one by one. Then swap over to cruisers, and then finally go to BC's/BS. Runs missions much faster than more or less any missile boat u can come up with. Insta damage, and full damage vs frigs at range is good.

As a rule of thumb I tend to take out BCs first, they do a fair chunk of damage but they die in a couple of volleys. Often move to destroyers next for similar reasons given they just need a couple of launchers, let alone a volley.
OP: make sure your drones are on passive mode, unless you've got aggro for the entire room.

Thanks for all the help guys!
Looking at possibly getting a Machariel first, but need spend some time on my gunnery skills (I've got level 4/5 on all missiles, but rubbish gunnery skills)
I just did AE in 45 minutes - is that good, bad or ugly?
Thanks

I find 3x bouncer sentry drones are really helpful. Deploy them before pulling agro. When they finally start to take damage, pull them in, then re-deploy. When there are only frigates left, use 5x light drones.

The most efficient way...hmm. I'd suggest logging in about 5 alts in gank ships, that'd be pretty efficient.

This.
The ability to deploy sentries without worrying if they receive aggro is an under-appreciated bonus. Also, remember to have them target frigs on approach. I just wish that my main could fit sentries into his skill plan within the calendar year.
