So when people are fleeting up they prefer armor tank because the logistics ship has bonuses to either armor or shield remote repair equipment, and by having an armor repping logistics ship you are able to heal far more people who randomly show up and get more variety in the ships that are able to participate than if you ask for shields. That's the whole armor thing.
That part isn't it at all. Armor tanked RR gangs are more popular because the armor RR modules are better. They use less capacitor per cycle (this is the big one), and since they're PG hungry instead of CPU hungry they are usually easier to fit on non-dedicated-logistics BS gangs.
If you haven't noticed, BC and smaller hulls usually have more PG than CPU by up to 2:1, but that ratio jumps to 10:1 for BS hulls.

Where can I get passive armor tank plx?
Get it right; Active armor - run repper, resists and cap booster. Buffer armor - fit plates and resists.
Active shield - run shield booster, resists, boost amps, cap booster. Buffer shield - fit extenders and resists. Passive shield - fit extenders, resists and SPR's
Speed tanking - fit OD's, nano's.

I'm sorry Ruhige, I simply disagree with you. I have never heard complaints about Bassiliks being bad ships. But I never see anyone fielding a bassilisk. Though armor rep may be less capacitor/cpu intensive, the associated bonuses on the dedicated shield logisitics ship more than overcome this. Shield logistics is unpopular because 3/4 of the game's ships can armor tank and 1/4 can't. Shield tanking reppers perform just fine.
However, I think your point is very valid for spider tanks and non dedicated logistics.

Fair enough. I'm a small gang type of guy, usually BS fleets doing spider RR, and then typically caps providing logistics during larger engagements. Actual logistics hulls are pretty rare around here.

Now I am kind of confused about the role of the shield skills "** shield compensation #". Are these not supposed to add to my resistences? Is it only when the hardener is off or only with passive hardeners?
It doesnt seem to add 5% per level but some fraction of that. Is this skill worthwhile? Is it only worthwhile with passive modules?

The various damage type specific shield resistance skills increase the resistance amplifying modules (magnetic scattering amplifier I) resistance by 5% per level, and the active one's resistance ('Annointed' Em-Ward) bonus when turned OFF by 2 or 3% per level.
Shield compensation itself prevents damage from leaking through when your shields are below 25%.

OOOOOOOOH ....so its only useful then in the passive flavor and it give me a 5% bonus to the 32.5 percent...ah. I see so its not 37.5...its (1.05)X(32.5)

there is a pretty simple reason most large fleets use armor. it is because when bonus's are applied your armor gains hp without taking fake "damage" whereas the shields you lose all that extra shield aka a chunk of your hp. its a simple concept Life is Pain.....Get over it!!!! |

and the simple fact shields use more Cap to RR,
anyway, thread was too long and I'm sure it has been said already so I am reinforcing it.
Tank one or the other, do not mix your tank cause it is FAIL.

OMG.....I just have to say..... everything they say about passively shield tanked drakes ...is entirely true.
I can do L3's with FOF missles and drones and aggro the entire room so my little drones dont take fire, set the launchers and go get something to eat while my auto-tanked auto-firing auto-drone-butt-kicking setup gets to work earning me cash.
This is a LONG JUMP from the completely half-cooked thoraxes i was building a week ago. I even PST'ed my celestis and now I am addicted. YAY for hands off mission grinding!
I feel like I need to graduate to battleships to get enough DPS to make these missions go faster because they take HOURS now with <500 dps on these well tanked mission rats.

You are so bad at this.
1. No reppers on a shield tank. Fit the repper in station, undock and repair, then remove it to save on costs. Same with hull reppers.
2. You are using plates for PvE. protip: plates provide no extra ability to tank. At all.
3. Cap boosters. In PvE. WTF man. Use cap rechargers or capacitor power relays.
4. You say "two energized magnetic membranes". I think you are not fitting the correct resist for the NPC's you are fighting. If the NPC's don't do that type of damage they wont help.
From what you said, your 'armor tank' consisted of a medium repper, and thats it.
tl;dr; Armor tank (PvE) = Capacitor recharge (cap recharger II), Armor resists (<type> hardener II), Armor repair (<size> armor repairer II).

That's tactical shield manipulation. Shield compensation reduces the capacitor need of shield boosters ---------- Who, me? |
