Edited by: Ecko Six on 02/05/2010 17:55:17 Edited by: Ecko Six on 02/05/2010 17:54:55 I am now on my 3rd attempt at playing this game over a 2 year period.
It seems I always run into a mission that simply is not working. (and it always seems to be the 3rfd or 4th part of a multi-part mission series) So on part 3 of this mission to go to an adjacent system and pick up a scientist from a research station I enter that system. I then right click on the mission objective in the journal entry and select "Approach location". (for some reason this mission did not have a right-click mission encounter sub-menu. Once I warp to the mission area there is nothing there. Nada. Nothing at all.. After 30 minutes or enabling/disabling filters in overview settings and getting help from the help channel -- still nada.
This has been the typical scneario for almost half my misisons in the passed 2 days.. All tutorial or level 1 missions from agents in a myriad of systems.
Next anonying thing is a level 1 mission that yields 30k ISK but is 46 jumps away.. Another 13k ISK if you can do it in 1hr 40 minutes. Is this what I have to look forward too? Several hours of mindless flying for a pittance of ISK?
Just looking for some insight before I invest any more time in this game...
Thx

If you don't have the mission location in the right click menu you might be in the wrong system or have forgotten to accept the mission.
Later missions do pay a lot more and require less travelling. And then there is of course a whole lot more to do...

Wait a few minutes for the enemies to spawn. Make sure to hit alt X to make sure you can see targetable structures.

Well, I didn't have the problem of any mission not working. Ever(not counting server crashes or own stupidity).
As for the mission however many systems away... it happens, seldom. Just decline it and continue with the next one.

Thats more than likely result of AP setting.
-AP is set to avoid systems people have been killed in -AP is set to avoid some other system -Mission system is actually 3jumps away, just happens to have 1 lowsec system inbetween you and it.
Also, I've never run into a mission bug in a fair few years of playing. I'm assuming when you open the journal you mean you press "Warp to x" or "Dock" if its a station, as approach location will won't warp you to the mission position.

basically, your doing something wrong
"eve isn't for everyone" is the nice way of saying "eve isn't for idiots"
so, try to be smarter and if all else fails... join the other spammers in the help channel and plead for guidance. "A game that is significantly nonlinear is sometimes described as being open-ended or a sandbox, and is characterized by there being no "right way" of playing the game." |

1. Always make sure you ACCEPT the mission before undocking and start going to the location.
2. some mission wants you to blow up x or pick y up at z, and these things are not in your overview. to make sure you dont miss anything go into overview settings and show all.
3. make sure you dont have any systems on the avoid list and that you pressed in shortest route avivable.
4. autopilot takes a very long time. manual flight does not.
5. do not forget that you can decilne any mission you want without a standing loss.
6. http://eve-survival.org/wikka.php?wakka=MissionReports there you have all missions in detail. use it.
7. get friends. If you like to run missions join a mssion running corp and they will take you on to higher level missions that will give you alot more standing then the lvl 1 missions. maybe even 10 times as much.
8. missions are only a very small and not very fun fraction of a shadow of eve. there is ALOT more to do. (though to be able to do most of it you need friends. so join a player driven corp. its worth it. and most people DO actually take on noobs, whatever you may think.)
I hope that helped a little bit. have fun!

Oh yeah thats a great idea
/me spends most of isk on pvp ship and ammo and goes out to lowsec /me gets ****d at first lowsec gate by gatecamp /me doesnt has any ship left
Now /me doesnt has any isk left because carebearing is stupid and boring and thus /me can't buy a new ship for other pvp activities, /me gets bored and /me quits EVE.
Get the picture ? ----------------------------------------------- But then again I cant really approve of any of this because this is my signature |

Whats just as boring as mission grinding? 1. Grinding the skill for tank types, that are not really need because its all about buffer. Got to be some reason for training to increase rep cycles and capacitor recharge/amount, yet the cap is't used for more then a MWD burst and laser/hybrid weapons. So whats the point of these skills if they are not used?
2. Grinding hitpoint buffers. Chewing up hitpoints then *****ing about drakes when you can't kill it as your lows are full of tungsten plates and energized resist plates, because +3 damage mods are only flown by mission runners. When you can't get through the hitpoints, you bring friends to blob. Target then docks up, you ***** about station games. Target brings out logistics to avoid the blobs, logistics docks when its shot. You ***** about neutral logistics.
3. Grinding mission runners. Since you can't kill people that actually are trying to put up an effort in PVP, you find easier targets in mission hubs. As you love your security status so much, you resort to flipping wrecks and hope they shoot back (non-consent PVP)then melt their ship around them with ease. Then you ***** about mission runners making more then you and level 4s should be moved to lowsec, where you can shoot with impunity on fat targets because BS is the easiest ship to run them in when starting out and you certainly don't want to challenge.
Because you hate grinding missions for isk. You then go to the boards and grind a post count of hates/dislikes of other peoples choices in the litterbox of EVE. Its just a huge circle of grinding.

There's more do to than run missions or PvP. Take me, for example, I either sit around in a station or I undock and warp to a safe spot (not deep safe since those are going away) and sit there for hours on end while playing a browser-based MMO in EVE's IGB.
Lots more fun than missions or getting your booty handed to you on a plate in PvP and, get this, you still gain SP at the same rate doing that vs anything else so you can still become super appealing to the opposite sex by having loads of SP. . Support EVE's future: Vote Cat o'Ninetails for CSM! |

What is the name of the mission?
What it ask you to do?
You have acceleration gates visible in overview?
Have you clicked on the acceleration gate to enter the mission area?

I had this issue before where a mission didn't spawn when I warped in. Relog, and it should be fixed.
My mission was recon 1 of 3, and it spawned the previous day, so I know I had accepted it. But that day, I had to relog for it to.

FYI mate, lowsec isn't that dangerous.
But take a frigate with low meta fittings, and try your hand in highsec. Chances are you'll find someone else to have fun fighting. It gives you an adrenaline rush far beyond any mission.

I'm not the biggest mission guy but I've run scores of them and haven't run into a broken one yet. Not saying that they don't exist but they're rare.
46 jumps? No way,.. gotta be your autopilot settings.
Good luck!

I heard that pointing fingers elsewhere instead of realising that you're new to the game so you're probably doing something wrong is a great way to get ahead. I also heard that people who ask question in a normal manner get decent answers, people who whine get trolled.
Just something I heard, I could be wrong.

I know that mission and it isn't broken, the scientist is in cargo container. right click the can and approach to <2.5k, right click again and open container, drag him into your hold just like when looting a wreck.
