I have Scientific Networking at 3, which supposedly gives me a 10 jump range for remote lab operation.
However, an alliance pos lab just 5 jumps away won't let me install a job.
Any ideas folks, or is this actually petitionable/broken?

If it's in another region (even if just one jump away) it wont work. You will have to train to level V for region control

It's in the same region, even the same bloody constellation.

If lab is not owned by your own corp you need to be in the same system, at a station with corp offices for it to work.

Good to know that the skill is broken. It *used* to work for alliance POS as well.

BPO is not in a corp hangar? Perhaps you trying to copy it?
No other reasons for it not to work unles there's no acess to alliance labs from that corp or lab is offline. |

If the BPO is in the Pos lab - skill is working.
If the BPO is not in the POS lab, then the BPO needs to be in the same system as the POS is. (Eg: Station) - skill is working
If the station (corp hangar) and the POS are in a different system, then you can not start any job. - that is by design.

For usual labs - both lab and blueprint have to be in the same station, while you can be up to 10 jumps away from that station.
For corp/alliance labs - blueprint has to be in your corp hangar which has to be in a station in the same system as the lab itself. And you can be up to 10 jumps away from that system.
Also for corp labs you can use blueprint located directly in the lab. While being away from that system again.

Before the EVE Bank, the founder of EVE Bank had an alliance setup purely to run highsec pos tower labs, for research alts, for profit. I had a research alt in an alt corp that was joined to the alliance, and that alt had SciNet trained to IV. He was able to, from the SINGLE corp hangar that I had for that corp, install jobs to any of the alliance pos labs within 15 jumps, practically region-wide.
My problem with the skill is that somehow in the last couple years, this was broken. If it is actually a patch as a "fix", someone please point me to it, and possibly a reason why it was changed.

Its working fine for me.
One proble maybe roles and hanger access. Make sure if it is at your tower
1. its in a corp hanger you have access too.
2. check the roles for the structure.
3. make sure your tower is plugged in and the switch is on.
4. it doesnt work in wh.
5. Make sure the access to the pos structure is set to corporate or alliance.

heh fair enough it maybe time to petition. I think sometiems structures bug out or there is a communication problem between the server and the players. For example my personal research lab has no pe slots even though it is supposed to have 3. It's kinda funny how sometimes random things break. Being a programmer myself its kinda a pain in the ass to find out why that thing broke the way it did.

I bet all the isk I made in a similar operation (also by Ricdic, but an earlier than the one you mentioned) that your memory is playing tricks on you.
