Got a few questions about ninjas and was kind of wondering if this is the sort of forum that they hang in (although I suspect they parasitically hang out with the carebears collecting tears).
Anyhow assuming they are I am sort of wondering what the ninja rate is actually like. I was kind of thinking about setting up a ninja baiting operation (specific details with held) with the aim of getting kills on ninja gank ships. I guess what I am asking is how long do I have to sit in a mission in Dodixie until a ninja turns up?
What is the best way to attract ninjas to your missions? and what is the best way to get the looting types?

You sound like a really fun anti-gank ganker for some of my corpies to play with...
Fit a bait ship that has a huge sig. Drakes and most shield tankers will do. That will up the chances of you getting scanned down. Always accept missions like AE or other juicy wreck-filled missions.
Now, try to finish the mission as slowly as possible, and don't forget to take all the aggro from the room, and make sure you shoot all looterz! Voila! You are now ready to be ninja'd from.

I think any busy hub would work (Dodixie, Motsu, Penirgman, etc) but most important is the right mission. The average ninja will go for any proffitable lvl 4 mission but the "worst" lot of them (mission item thieves) are attracted like flies to a heap of fresh cow dung to missions like Damsel in Distress or Worlds Collide because of the option of being able to ransom the mission item for more isk and additional missioner tears.

Use a Hurricane as your bait ship if you're in Caldari space. Since so many people there fly missions with Ravens and salvage with Hurricanes it seems a lot of ninja's que on the presence of a Salvacane.

If, on a dark and stormy night, you whisper their secret name into an empty chat pane 3 times, they will come.
Suddenly.
Ninjas.
Hundreds of them.

Actually, since the scanner doesn't really give a lot of clues about specific mission type, the average ninja will just enter the mission deadspace and start salvaging (and looting, if he's looking for a gank). If there's mission items to be had for ransom, that's just bonus - it also increases the chance for tears. We provide the risk CCP forgot to put into high-sec mission running. |

Get juicy ship with good passive-tank, get Recon 3/3, go sleep and check local chat after you wake up. Or stay awake and ready your salvager to salvage the ninja-salvager¦s wreck¦s

Select a faction BS and fit it with faction or other expensive mods. Sit outside Dodixie m20. Try to act like a wounded fish. If you mail me in game and send enough isk, I will give you the name of the best anti-ninja pilot. ( which isn't you, Larry.)

If a ninja is giving tears over a failed gank, they have dishonoured the rest of the ninja clan and should immediately remove themselves from the system until they have seen the error of their ways.

Actually, you'd be surprised how much some of the more experience ninjas know about L4 missions. A few of us feel the need for jump clones here and there and will occasionally run a L4 for standings for JCs. I'm personally familiar with most, if not all, of the missions issued by the agents in my home system- I actually CAN do a D-scan check and narrow the mission down quite a bit.
I've been on the receiving end of ninjas as well, when I ran missions for JC standings with Brutor Tribe. Believe me when I say that there isn't much you can do to stop a determined ninja, besides gimp your tank/gank by fitting ECCM mods/scan res mods/HALO implants/whatever it is.
edit: whoops, didn't address OP.
The most popular one is the Recon mission, but now most ninjas are smart enogh to tank their salvage ships to a certain degree. Also, remember that our salvage boats at the most cost 1m or so, we can afford to lose a fair amount of them [i]2000 B.C. - "Here, eat this root." 1000 B.C. - "That root is heathen, say this prayer." 1850 A.D. - "That prayer is superstition, drink this potion." 1940 A.D. - "That potion is snake oil, sw |

Run a shield extended, 1MN mwd golem (requires an MWD enabled mission, like the ninja's favorite Angel Extravaganzza). You'll light up like the moon in a clear nightsky. -- 081014 : emoragequit, char transfered to a friend, 090317 : back to original owner blog |

The thing you have to do is, as soon as you see the ninja turn blinky, open fire with everything you've got. It helps if you've already targeted them beforehand. They will probably die.
Then they will come back and crush you.
I hear that TEARS are suicide ganking missioning Marauders now. That's got to suck... I would stick with doing whatever it is you do instead of making yourself a target.

Actually the plan is to kill the gank ship not the salvager.

Dreed, whatever you try, please attempt it in Dodixie - it is the only way to strike fear in the hearts of ninjas.
Larry, I am still really, really angry.
