Perhaps a bit different from what you all are looking at now, I made this little drawing of how the WH space might be formed during the exploration stage of the Sleepers. It's posted as an IC comment over there at IGS.

Although I must say it doesn't look like this spiral is meant to be anything literal...

Too complicated to be anything applicable to the abstract nature of the spiral I proposed; in fact, I think saying it is a simple spiral is already kinda stretching. There wasn't any specific shape to begin with, the proposition of it being a spiral is no more accurate than saying New Eden is a spider web; it's only something it looks like, it isn't anything by itself. So I think this is something not of relevance.
Furthermore, the applications of Fermat's spiral is more of a resource distribution method onto a surface, like the formation of flower petals; a simple spiral, like the spiral path of a bee, is much more probable to be relevant, if at all.

Edited by: Calathea Sata on 03/11/2010 12:52:48 Is this a spiral?
I tried playing around in this tool, but it won't create the W-space blob pattern.
But I agree that it looks like one. But I don't know what you are talking about in Jita 4-4.
edit: there's 30 blobs in W-space.

Please don't act like an authority because it irritates people. There was a theory lying around which basically says W-space is a maze layed out by the Sleepers as a testing ground, to test and observe our capabilities in battle. I think this is a very dangerous theory in the sense that it is leaking real life CCP considerations into the game universe. Game machnics is designed to be in a balance of difficulties, in different areas/stages, of cause, because it's a MMO and it needs to be what it is. But that doesn't mean there is an IC reason for it; I think it's very dangerous to think that Sleepers created these balances and they are watching us, because the same can be said about the entire game universe and the ultimate theory one can achieve IC will be "we are all just programs in a simulation and there is no way we can find out who created us".

I read this as confirmation of my suspicion, that the Sleeper story will not progress (or unravel its mysteries for that matter) until CCP decides it is time to.
That is fine with me. It just a shame you are hoaxing people into foolishly believing they stand any chance of 'solving a mystery' when key elements of the puzzle are being hold back. And no, allowing people a glimpse of the corner of one of the missing pieces do not count as providing a clue players can work with; it is just teasing and only leads to wild speculations which cannot be verified or even rejected.
Of course, having people go on insane speculations might be fun when YOU know what the mystery is about, but there is no game to it for others. No investigation mystery solving puzzle game, no interactive story telling.
I agree that an unsolvable game is flawed in nature, it is just teasing and nothing else; perhaps this is why I was put off from all these puzzles because it's unsolved not because we cannot, but because of the puzzle is unsolvable in design, or the solution is simple "scheduled in x months"... which is just like watching a poorly scripted TV show.
