I am running windows 7 in Boot Camp on a summer 2009 Unibody Macbook Pro. I was in EVE running one account on this computer and a different account on another. I warped into an asteroid belt where my alt was sitting mining, but when I arrived, there was nothing in the overview. About 30 seconds later, I was forcibly logged out. When I tried to log back in, I could get as far as the character selection screen, but when I clicked on my character's portrait, the progress bar would appear, and slowly and steadily (which is different from the jerky motion that it does on my other working computers) would prgress to the end without actually loading anything. Finally, the game would restart. What is up? What can I do?

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\path to install
Delete the cache folder in there.

Well, that fixed it. What could have caused this? Is this a common occurrence? Is there a way to avoid this happening in the future?

I retract my statement that it was fixed. I was able to log in. Once. Then when I tried again, it went back to its old behaviour. I tried deleting it again, now I can't even get past the "authenticating" screen. What is going on?

I'm having the same identical problem, It will let me log into and play on my alt characters on my accounts, but not my mains. Freezes every time right at the character selection progress bar. Worked for years with no problem till today and I was playing yesterday, nothing has changed on my system since them, I have not even rebooted it so something is up with the server.
loss in skilling time :(

Check C:\users\<user name>\Documents\Eve\Logs (Vista)
The Gamelogs and Chatlogs entries never go away. You need to delete the files here at least once a week.
