The purpose of this thread is for people to voice their own opinions on the topic that you will read below. An added bonus to this would be for people to come up with possible solutions to the topic.
We all know that installing multiple Science & Industry jobs can be an extremely arduous task...
For those of you who install the odd job or two once in a blue moon, you will now be thinking things like: 'That's not so bad' and 'You only have to click 5 or so buttons per job'
This is correct. However, Like a lot of people. I rely on installing hundreds of S&I jobs per day, Thousands a week and Tens of thousands per month.
Having to,
- Choose the Location of the lab you wish to use
- Choose the Assembly line in said lab
- And then finally, Confirm what you have previously chosen is Correct before the job actually begins.
On a large scale, such as the never ending production line that I face. It is no less than one huge mother of a pain in the back side.
I find myself having an internal tantrum (wanting to scream out in agony but being unable to from the emotional drainage created as a side effect of Invention) after installing job number 4 or 5 knowing that there is around 15 to go and that I have to do it all again after 37 minutes of 'relative' sanity.
I'm going to have to cut this short since, once again.. its time to reinstall the invention jobs
One possible solution that I quickly managed to dream up is being offered the option when delivering jobs to 'Repeat the Job' that you are delivering.
- Automatically installing the same BPC
with the same type of S&I job at the same Lab on the same Assembly line.
This will end the problem altogether meaning that you only have to press a fraction of the amount of buttons (add in the interface lag that many of us suffer from, comparable to waiting for a video stream to buffer) than you previously did.

As it has been suggested before, some type of batch installing would be a pretty solid idea too. So you don't need to install one job at a time. ---

Suggesting little fixes to a system this flawed is pointless. We need an entirely new science and industry interface. Many have been suggested before in the Ideas and Suggestions forum. I would rather request an entirely new interface than random fixes to the existing one.

Sounds fine to me.
Perhaps stop moaning, stop being lazy and work for your rewards?

If it was easy everyone would be doing it . Although it may be an annoyance to you now for some it is a huge hurdle to install an invention job . I think it is a good idea to have to go back to a lab to reinstall a job. The job of an inventor is to read blueprints and understand them in order to make a better item than what they started with . A few extra clicks of your mouse is surely worth THAT effort ,no ? Maybe CCP can see all of our skills and determine that you can do all these tasks so you don't have to play the game at all and just watch your income come in . Now that would be fun .

It's even worse if you're using a POS lab, because the interface will never save the "blueprint's solar system" so I completely understand your frustration of dealing with an overly complicated and poorly implement interface on a regular basis. However with all the attention CCP are currently focussing on science and industry this thread could get a lot farther in the ideas and suggestions part of the forums? Not to mention that trolls such as the one above usually don't know about that part of the forums :)
Let's hope CCP either change the interface, or at the very least improve upon these flaws which would, I believe, be quite easy to remedy.

I kinda want batch install and/or reducing the useless clicks by one million but I do fear it might empower the tards to stay in the business or even encourage more tards to enter.

OMG, you are crazy, my friend.
Honestly I agree of course, even with only a small fraction of your job number I have to install every week. (I believe, everyone must agree, since the UI for science and industry jobs is simply not user-friendly.)
But you better bring your proposal to the CSM Assembly hall and try to reanimate an old idea which was already a CSM submission one year ago:
http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=978203
http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/UI_S%26I_interface_improvements_%28CSM%29
But nothing happened since that time, so it seems it was classified with low priority or didn't have enough support. The old thread is closed due to inactivity, so it might be allowed to open a new one and bring this into memory again.

+1 on revised Science and industry UI
Only hope it doesn't bring too many more to the invention table. |
