Do this:
"lspci | grep VGA"
and post the result. --

Run Memtest86+
It's available in many distros. As a package you can install and select from the boot menu, or you can run it from the install disc.

For those of you, like me, desperate to get sound working with EVE, try the link above. Note, you may still need to follow the other steps above, including delete or rename the jukebox folder (I also set my music level to zero). I didn't use a virtual desktop.
By following the instructions in the first post in the thread at that link I now have sound, but not music, working in EVE. It looks like there may be a better solution mentioned in the thread I linked but I have not tried this yet.
Another hint, if you cant get Winetricks to run (command not found) then try this site: http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks
and read the sections on getting and then using Winetricks.

Enough for OpenGL 2.0 or DirectX 9.0.

However, segmentation faults are often (not always) an indication of hardware error, which is why I recommend running memtest.

Yeah, I'll try that once I can get my hands on a disk. Thanks for the help, and if anyone has any other suggestions, I'm still in the market for them! The answer is ALWAYS 42.

Success. Had to purge all graphics drivers from the system and reinstall the ati ones, then reconfigure the xserver. FPS is crap, station isn't loading, and icons are missing, but I'm at least ingame haha The answer is ALWAYS 42.

Last odd thing,
I've tried to change the registry entries for direct3d, but it isn't listed at all under Current User/Software/Wine/. The directory doesn't even exist.
(Sorry for the triple post!) The answer is ALWAYS 42.

It's not always there by default, you may have to create it. That goes for the keys as well. They should be strings.
