I've petitioned this twice, submitted all logs, etc and been told that it will be looked into. Petitioned third time today, some 3 weeks later. I've been told that this is a known issue.
The short version: I have a Win7x64 laptop, which has intel graphics. Sometimes I can play for hours. Sometimes, eve will crash after seconds. There is no logical pattern. I can open a container in station, open training queue - sometimes it takes me 5-6 attempts to get the ability to skillchange. I daren't PVP for obvious reasons.
CCP automatically just took another year subscription, but this problem has been going on for months now. I suspect that there is NO effort being made to solve this issue, and the next update will just contain new features to draw in more users.
What I would like to know from a CCP rep is: When do you expect this issue to be resolved? Are you working to resolve it?
I'll be very disapointed if the next patch does not solve this, in fact - I'm already very disappointed that little commucation back about the issue.
I've tried to solve it myself; Changed power options on the card, run in windowed mode, dropped settings, run as admin, run in safe mode and so on.
It's really frustrating.

Turn off all that AERO crap. It worked for me. I turned off:
--Animations in taskbar and Start Menu --Enable desktop composition (**this is the last one I turned off that fixed my issues permanently**) --Save taskbar thumbnail previews --Show shadows under mouse pointer --Show Shadows under windows

Thanks - I got rid of all of the aero stuff and am in classic mode now for some weeks.
I just lost the mouse shadows, so we'll see what happens.

Boom. Another crash after a few minutes.

I'm running into the same issues with Windows 7 32 bit with the Intel drivers. I've been experimenting with the graphics settings and with driver updates, but no luck so far. I'll try turning the eye candy off and see if that helps. The only other thing I could think of would be my firewall. I will have to play around with that if the eye candy doesn't solve the issue. I'll let you know what happens.

I have been having the exact same problems on my W7 laptop. It is annoying as all heck and have been living with it for months. Same as LordHoundis I would really like to see CCP fix this since, as he mentioned it really limits my game abilities.

I've turned off all the eye candy, sound, everything to low, powersaving options are set of off everywhere, all drivers updated. I've tried it with and without my firewall (Online Armor) and it makes no difference at all.
At home I'm on wireless, at the office I'm on 2mb synchronous DSL - with different providers - and same results.
My Win7x64 looks like Windows 2000 so much stuff is turned off :)

I have done the exact same thing with no luck either. It just seems to happen at random. I'm at a loss.

I've had a response from CCP telling me that they couldn't find my two prior petitions and asking for my email address.
Still no indication if something is being done to address the problem.
As a programmer myself, I'm happy to work directly with the techs, even to the extent of giving remote access to my laptop if I think something is actually going to be done to solve it, but I am not happy to gather up the next set of logs and send them into the same "no feedback" black hole.

Could you give us more intel about your hardware and drivers? Run dxdiag and check SYSTEM INFORMATION and DISPLAY DEVICES for details. Please tell us what kind of crash will happen. Will EVE just close? Do you run EVE in full screen or window mode? One client only? What are your graphics settings in EVE exactly. Check ADVANCED SETTINGS. Please post them. What kind of audio card do you use? Is EVE voice enabled?
How do you start EVE? Like this? C:\Games\EVE\eve.exe /end /LUA:OFF This will force EVE to place the "cache" and "settings" folder inside the EVE installation. If you try this you should copy your "settings" usually placed on C: in your user/AppData/Local/CCP/EVE/c_games_eve_tranquility folder into the EVE root. Don't care about the "cache" folder. Just delete the "cache" on C:.
Laptop > computer model? > graphics? > audio? > driver versions? > what other apps installed? > special drivers, services running? > anti-virus app? I recommend to use Microsoft Security Essentials!
EVE > try EVE command: ...\EVE\eve.exe /end /LUA:OFF eventually there's something different when "cache" and "settings" are inside EVE > window or fullscreen? > one or more clients? > EVE Settings? > EVE voice on/off?
I had some issues with my Alienware m17x. Overall I was all the time stucked by session changes and some kind of desync what caused a visual bug of the capacitor and shield. PvP was some kind of chewing fist because when beeing afk for while I mostly could jump one gate but was stucked at the next one. This issue was known but not solved. Some believe it's SLI related. I think it depends on your EVE settings and it's an WLAN problem.
I figured out that I changed in EVE settings the PRESENT INTERVAL in DISPLAY & GRAPHICS a while ago. So I set it back to "Interval default" what seemed to solve the session change problem. Overall I still had this cap/shield bug. So finally I changed my interent from WLAN to LAN and now it looks fine.
I also had a strange bug after updating my BIOS. When running EVE my computer got frozen after a while. Finally I found out that I had to turn off something in my BIOS what I turned accidently on after the update. I will check this and update my post to tell what it was.
I hope we can find a solution.

I did happen to see a pattern last night as I was performing a series of tests. It always happens when I open a window and it has to communicate with the server to populate the window contents. It happens more often with the market window on the details screen, but I have had it happen with other windows as well. If I'm in normal flight or running a mission, no problems, but as soon as I open a window, I run the risk of a crash.
Has anyone else seen this pattern?

I'm having the same issue and notice the same pattern.. Any time I wanted to check my wallet "anything" (transactions, orders, journal, stock) i got a frozen screen and booted off. Evemails the same, journals the same, markets the same, can't even undock from station with out getting booted.. This is driving me nuts..

Yes. It is inconsistent though. What happens for me, for example, is that I open market to get a price on trit. Program stops working (encountered a problem or whatever the message is). Log in again - crashes again at same spot. This could be repeated several times, and then next time - it all just works and I can get in.
The same sort of thing happens when I try to open corp hangar, ship hangar, wallet, journal, contracts. The irritating thing is there's no consistency. I was bidding on prints and repeatedly opening and rebidding on an auction. Worked fine. Next day I opened an item I was outbid on, and bang it crashed.
Practicing probing in empire - ran for hours. A few hours prior though, each time I zoomed out or tried to move a probe it would crash.

This too. However, it doesn't always happen for me. Last night I managed to mine for an hour or so (don't judge me!) - it's also crashed on me when in space. I'd hate to undock in Jita with something juicy in the hold and crash.
Oh - and nothing more from CCP.

Hi All,
Failed. No further response from CCP yet. While I appreciated the good-natured attempts to help me to solve this problem from the community, CCP have acknowledged previously that this is an issue.
My question is basically - will it be fixed in the next patch, or not ? It is very annoying to pay an annual sub for a game that I can't play properly.
Is there some chance of a word from an official CCP rep. There has still been no feedback on my Petition.
Again, CCP - I am willing to work with your programming team, install monitoring software or even give you remote access to my laptop if required.

Having similar problems with my intel graphics, windows 7 32bit laptop. Worked fine with Vista, but apparently the upgrade to 7 was just too much awesomeness for Eve to handle
Specs: Inspiron 1525 with an Intel 965 mobile graphics adapter (the integrated kind) with the latest Intel drivers.

I have same problem. Used EVE on my laptop with Windows XP with no problem for several months. Upgraded to windows 7 and now it crashes randomly when opening mail/training etc and when flying. Checked drivers and direct x all uptodate. Even turned all graphics down to min but same problem.
Looks like its back to XP till they fix issue.

OK Guys, I finally got mine fixed. I have a Dell Vostro with the Intel GM965 graphics running Window 7 Home Premium 32 bit. Eve would crash randomly, but appeared to crash when it was updated window content. The solution was my last resort, but I reworked my system to a dual boot system. I created a small partition for Windows XP with the latest drivers and Eve only. I then created a second partition for Windows 7. Eve now works and a lot faster. I was able to turn off services I didn't need, because Eve is the only thing running on it. Granted, this isn't the desired solution, but for me, it works.

"Went back to XP" isn't really a fix for the issue, but it did give me an idea to try:
Windows XP Mode.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx
This will allow a Virtualised version of XP to run, but without dual boot. My concern is that it might be slow - if it works at all - but I'm going to give it a spin.
The benefit over dual booting is that I can actually work while I play, so I can get things done.
I plan to try it out during the next 24h and will report back on my progress.
In the meanwhile, I've still heard nothing back from CCP regarding a fix for this issue, or not - and whether it's been sorted for the next update.

Hi,
I had the official update as follows:
Hi.
The developers are working on finding a way to fix the issue on our side, however since this is a problem with the Intel drivers it might be a hard thing to do. Intel are also working on the problem from their side and will report their findings to our core graphics development team. I just hope they'll be able to locate the exact cause in order to release newer drivers as well as for our developers to change what they can in the client for our Intel users being able to play without problems again.
When this will happen I sadly do not know due to the difficulty of the bug but you should see any indication of a change in the patch notes for the upcoming patches.
Best regards, Senior GM Retrofire EVE Online Customer Support

Hi,
take a peek in Event Viewer, there should be a log of sort about the crash. Something like this: Faulting application name: ExeFile.exe, version: 6.20.1.53887, time stamp: 0x4b1cdcac Faulting module name: atiumdva.dll, version: 8.14.10.250, time stamp: 0x4b8dd668 Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x00001535 Faulting process id: 0xc94 Faulting application start time: 0x01caf74cb7a507ba Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\bin\ExeFile.exe Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\atiumdva.dll Report Id: dea75692-634a-11df-8d70-00064f5ca60a
it may or may not give you some pointers, but it's worth a look.
I had similar issues in the past, and it was DEP that was causing the crashes, no idea if it's the same with you.
