I'm looking at joining a corp, not something I've done but a couple of times in the past year. The other two times it was just talking to the people and then joining resulting in me quitting not too long afterwards. So, I'm thinking of doing it again but I want to check out as much as I can about the corp before I do join it. I have questions, however.
How do I determine a corp and it's alliance's wardec status?
They say they hold sov but I can't find that they do checking the sov features in the star map or using http://go-dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Verite/influence.png. Of course this is just visually looking at the map to see if their name jumps out at me. Is there a way to "look it up"?
Anything else that I can verify on my end before taking the plunge?

Best place to look up an alliance's sovereignty status is dotlan. Just search for it using the alliance name.

Hey,
that's under corp menu > wars > other wars, and then search for the alliance name, if I remember correctly.
You can't search for a corporation that's in an alliance, you'll need to search for the alliance in that case.

Open the star map, look for them under sovereignty. They might not hold enough space to show up on the influence map.
Or, maybe they live in NPC 0.0 and say they 'own' it.
You could try mentioning the corp/alliance name to see if anyone has heard of them. |

And definitely check out their kills/losses on their killboard, battleclinic.com or eve-kill.net and see whether they know how to dish it out or whether they're just a bucketful of victims.

Speaking from personal experience, few things are more painful than having a corp (or alliance) full of people without a backbone. |
