Fellow pirates, I let you down today. I did what no self-respecting pirate would do. I gave back the loot.
After sitting on a gate for 2 hours, an itty IV on autopilot shows up. I do my scan and... a Mackinaw and a Hulk plus junk. My heart goes pitter patter. I bring in the scooper and just as it uncloaks I re-lock the itty and fire. I get the Hulk and some junk and I'm gone. The target said one word "really?" but otherwise didn't ***** or moan. Somehow though, it just didn't feel right. I don't know why. Maybe it was the corp name (a play on Front 242). The target had already logged and was probably ****ed as hell (it looks like he just came back to the game). After about 5 minutes, I just couldn't help it. I contracted back everything that dropped ( shiny hulk).
Pirates, I hope you will forgive me. For all of you numbskulls who insist on flying with 250 million in an industrial, you will never ever meet another pirate who will give it back. To my victim, you are the luckiest bastard in EVE. If there is ever a next time, I'm keeping it all and maybe podding you for good measure.

Yesterday something similar happened to me, I was flying around and found a Hulk in a Gravimetric site. I ransomed him, since I'm spacepoor, and he "didn't have any isk" so I killed him. Since my heart is so very large, I told him that I'd let him scoop the ore that he had mined and I wouldn't destroy it. Later spacejesus rewarded me as he came back for vengeance in a Tengu and delivered unto me this brilliant line: "my family may have to eat macaroni and cheese all month next month so I can sell a plex card to recover :( "
--- Vote me for CSM. Low-sec? I got that. Delayed local? You know I got that. Industry love? Oh baby I'm gonna blow.

he came back for vengeance in a $$$Tengu$$$
and then posts some whiny tale about making his family eat mac 'n cheese.
You should find his next hulk and relieve him of it

Generosity, excellence in empathy are actually requirements for a good pirate. Otherwise how could you enjoy fully the thrill of a kill ? Smacktalking, rudeness, and showcase evilness is ridiculous instead of being scary, and denotes an immature character.

Heh I did this once I blew a guys raven up which had a fare bit of loot in the cargohold,
The way he spoke to me made me feel sorry for him i not only gave back the loot, i also sent him the money for a new raven because I felt so bad after he spoke to me
Dark times lol, this was back when Invuln Field II's cost 20mill isk to buy and all t2 stuff was completley overpriced

In my first month of the game, i lost my very first BC (a Ferox with the smallest medium rails and passive hardeners and no mag stabs) to a Lowsec Pirate.
He felt so sorry for me he gave me a Vexor with T2 fittings (OMG T2!) and 50 mil.
I promptly lost this gift in the form of another Ferox in Lowsec trying to rat, again.
But i never forgot that one act of generosity.
Sadly I'm a **** and such acts are far beyond me.

You did your good deed for the day.
Have to say that I've given back loot to a pirate a few times when they failed to kill me 1 v 1 because I felt bad about how lopsided the fight was.

I too have contracted good back to the gankee.. Usually at some massive markup.. I've also contracted items back to people I haven't ganked.. And contracted empty contracts to people I haven't ganked and told them it was their loot.. Do you count the 10k it costs to setup the contract as an expense in this case? I hate doing taxes...

Nothing wrong with giving something back. Most people mistake pirating for griefing which it's not. Pirating is just a profession in EVE just like any other and there is nothing that says you have to do things one way or another.
Hell, even the Somali Pirates have let ransom victims go.

Don't feel bad man. I remember there was a short stint in my eve life when I was bored out of my mind and decided to give suicide ganking a try. I flew around looking for macro miners at first, and I found a few, then I found a lone hauler minding his own business on autopilot, there was nothing in the hold, no real reason to attack. So I popped him for the lulz. After he asked my why I did it, I told him for the lulz, and to see if I could kill him before concord came back. He just laughed about it. Long story short, I contracted him a replacement hauler and 5 mil isk. Well more than I killed, and never spoke of it again, that is until now. Easy Co. |

When I was justing starting, I had saved up for my very own mining Brutix. T2 mining lasers, and some very (VERY!) pricey T2 cargo expanders.
Long story short, it goes boom. Luckily, when going to refit for a new ship, there was the exact number of T2 expanders I needed, in system! What luck!
Turns out that I had just paid the guy who blew me up several million for my stuff back

Giving back isk makes me a sad panda. Seriously, though, it's a classy move to do some of the things that folks wrote about in this thread. Not everyone in EVE is a jagoff. I find that the more decent people are the folks that I will do long term business with. If someone's an a*shole, I'll just move on until I find someone less of a d*ck. Same goes for killing - if the guy whines or is a punk in local, I'll pod him. Otherwise, I figure the ship kill was good enough.

The closest I came was refusing to take some kid's last isk and ship.
Buddy pops him hauling a gila & some mods outside of jita; scooped.
I convo him and tell him I saw the whole thing and managed to scoop his gila, and will contract the gila (ie moa) back to him for like 75mil cause im a nice guy.
He tells me he only has 30 mil and an industrial. The gila wasn't even his. He said he's willing to sell everything he has and maybe get me 40mil.
I didn't have the heart to go through with it.
