Does anyone know whether, when Incarna is released and we will be required to create a new portrait, if the portraits will still be bound by gender? Particularly for players who never thought their gender choice would matter (pre-walking-in-stations :-P).

after a hundred times, yes, we'll be forced to create a new portrait since they cant import between the two engines.
and, if it helps any, I got rid of that annyoing line in my sig. |

I only hope there will be an option to preview the portrait avatar as it will actually look in-game. I liked the huge full-screen version of my face with all the details and fluff when I created this character, but I am not really satisfied with the tiny 32x32 in-game icon.
In before the "lol RP": when I'm gonna stare at the same face for hundreds of hours, I want to make it a face I won't mind staring at.

I just really hope there's more than 24 characters in the universe with Incarna. 4 races x 3 bloodlines x 2 genders -- with everyone in each group looking almost exactly the same just drives me crazy. I can deal with being a male Khanid as long as I can do something distinctive with him.

I would never have noticed if you didn't mention it, Cat. Now I'll just stare at the side of your head until I see it everytime I look at your character. At least until we can change how we look anyway.
Speaking of that, where's that guy with no face or the guy with the giant chin? Will that stuff still be possible when Encarta comes out?

I seem to remember them showing off the prototype at some meet. One of the things he was showing off was all the different outfits he had laying about for testing.
So, I do think it will be quite possible to personalize your ugly mug :)

Encarta was first released in 1993, unfortunately discontinued. 
And you may find the guy with no face here.

1993?! Don't be silly Dan! Encarta's coming out soon(tm) and it's probably one one or two major releases away from going live on the Big T. I bet it's being tested on Sisi in sekret Jove systems right now!

Can't say I like the idea of a forced portrait change. :( I had to discard 2 previous portraits before I finally got it right the 3rd time. Can't the Incarna portrait be separate from the 2d image used for ingame sheets and the forum and such?
Good thing is, we'll probably only see Incarna when hell freezes over. :)

Ooooh! It took me a little while just staring at the screen going "Why is he excited about the equals sign? Shouldn't the ! Go after it anyway unless it's upside down for Spanish?" before I figured it out. I still think it should be called Encarta since it also means it's not just a release, but a tome of awesome knowledge all chopped and trimmed to be easy to read.
