I'm mining ice in a retriever with two ice harvesters. When a cycle finnished two units of ice appear in my hold, and one laser shuts off without any message. The only way I can avoid this is stagger the laser so I never have 2 units of ice in my hold at once, but that doubles the amount of ship tending required. I tried fitting a single cargo expander, in case the problem was 100% cargo utilization, but this made no difference.
Is there any way to avoid this laser shutoff issue, other than teh staggering lasers thing I mentioned?

Sure it's not a power problem?

maybe that's a way CCP deals with macro miners - shut off mining lasers at random. hehe

That was my first thought, but the barge has 100 cap and the lasers only use 10.
Also, if I stagger the laser and forget to clear the hold anyway the laser still shuts off when the second piece of ice is placed in the hold, even though cap is full.

Wouldn't work, the macro would just get improved to restart the lasers.

I had the same problem and found a solution. And staggering the lasers seems to be the only solution Maybe if you can get 3k plus cargo it might not be the case. Going to check that in a few days by fitting 27% expanders.
I think the lasers check cargo at the start of the cycle. When I make sure that I have enough cargo free for a cycle they dont shut down.
Start laser wait a minute or so start next one Move ice to can before you have less then 1k cargo left.
With the 10 minute cycles it s easy to move ice before your cargo is full.

I get a cargohold is full message; if both lasers are cycled at the same time. The second laser will deactivate. This behavior is diffrent from normal mining lasers, as they will continue to mine even when the cargohold is full, untill thier cycle is up.

Please post your results, I'm hesitant to spend ~50M isk to work around this.
I'll go submit a bug report now.

Had the same happen. Two miners simultaniusly, one shutting down after the first cycle. Got a cargo hold is full message though.

Just stagger them by however long you need to get the first piece out by the time the second piece arrives. Fitting the two expanders to give an additional 1000m3 works too, but I find is is a very costly solution when I can just offset the start times by ten seconds or so.

The reason I think it happens is because the ice harvesting skill gives +3% bonus to ice mining yeild instead of -3% ice mining cycle duration like it should be. It registers an overfull cargohold and shuts off the most recent laser.

the ice mining skill description says +5% yield per lvl but doesnt do that, it gives a reduction by 5% per lvl on cycle time.
