So i do alot of low sec exploration when theres not many corpies online, and its gets a little boring sometimes. So once in awhile i'll try and strike up a conversation in local with the few others that are putting around. IF i get a response at all its usually "Go find someone else to kill" or "Leave me alone". As if even if i was hunting people down that by talking i was going to home in on them or something. Cant anyone just be friendly? Not everyone is out to get you. I do understand being on guard in low sec but come on. Be social people. Its not like im saying "So, what you flying?", "Oh yeah, whats fitted in your mids?".

Yeah, local is a socialising channel, it's almost as if people treat it as effortless, free intel or something!
Oh, wait...

Talking in a social game? That's forbidden isn't it?
No really though, this is part of the reason why I don't think stuff like the Encarta expansion are going to be as fun as possible. People in EVE are just way underdeveloped in human interaction compared to people doing stuff like IMUV or Second Life. . Support EVE's future: Vote Cat o'Ninetails for CSM! |

Talking in local is free intel to others.
The only time its worth talking in local is when you are actually interacting with others, like blowing someone up, ransoming them, or er... negotiating safe travel through a gatecamp.
There are plenty of player run channels you should get involved in if you want to chat. ~_~ (Retired from ship toasting. Now a professional.)

Sometimes it is silent as well but there's a lot of entertainment to be had. I bet there are a bunch of other channels which are purty cool as well.
Edit: Ah the Spankness beat me to it. Help us to make parrots game related today! |

Well I prefer to get podded in EVE over sexual harrasment and looneys trying to chat you up for whatever reason
EVE has its 'frustrated' people aswell but its far less from what I encountered in those games (Which are more of a glorified chatbox) ~~~~~~~~~~Sade~~~~~~~~~~ *Stronger than Pride* |

Edited by: Kallieah on 15/05/2010 20:13:08 People in EVE are lots more frustrated that they are in other games, I think. Look at all the skill training and the really dull parts of the game like skill training, getting standings, sitting at a boring gatecamp, or trying not to fall asleep while waiting for your fleet to form up. That's very frustrating.
Edit: And the skill training. I almost forgot that part. . Support EVE's future: Vote Cat o'Ninetails for CSM! |

Oh, I had had some good chats in low sec. This one time I talked to a fellow ratter for nearly half an hour in local after which he tried to kill me when we hit the same belt.

Confirming that Cult Of War is the most feared herd of Bovines in EVE Online.

I chat in low sec local all the time.
It's a good thing that I can carry on a conversation with myself, though, as no one else seems inclined to join in :P

People not looking for trouble hardly talk in local regardless of the sec of the system outside the hub areas, even in high sec I've found. The fact that in EVE you can't even trust your friends, corpies, mother in law etc (I mean really trust) doesn't help much. I guess a lot of people are not inclined to chat to some random trying to spark up a conversation because most of the time it leads to them trying to scam you or kill you, such is the nature of EVE.
