I have the LP to buy myself a present and it always annoyed me that I can't enter many exploration sites with a battlecruiser and having to keep a separate ship for probing closeby all the time is a bit of a hassle. It would be mainly used for high sec exploring.
Thinking about something like this:
[Omen Navy Issue, Explo] Capacitor Power Relay II (meh, I know) Heat Sink II Heat Sink II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Medium Armor Repairer II Armor EM Hardener II Armor Thermic Hardener II
Analyzer I Codebreaker I Cap Recharger II
Core Probe Launcher I, Core Scanner Probe I Salvager I Heavy Modulated Pulse Energy Beam I, Imperial Navy Multifrequency M Heavy Modulated Pulse Energy Beam I, Imperial Navy Multifrequency M Heavy Modulated Pulse Energy Beam I, Imperial Navy Multifrequency M Heavy Modulated Pulse Energy Beam I, Imperial Navy Multifrequency M
Medium Salvage Tackle I Medium Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
Hobgoblin II x5
Cap runs for 4:20 with my crappy skills (explo modules and salvager shut down) 342 dps with navy MF (can't use T2 guns yet) 129/161 def against Sansha (will be used mainly in Amarr space)
I wonder how much time I will lose compare to probing with a dedicated probing frig (even if I can find all sigs with this as my probing skills aren't really good yet) and if I would miss a speed mod very much.
Any comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated o/

If this is for high sec exploring only i would drop the analyzer and maybe the salvager.
The archi/salvage sites in high sec that i have found had crap loot so it wasnt really worth the time.
As for finding the sites, with 3% implants i could find almost all the sites in high sec other then the mining sites(which probably wont matter) on a non-probing-bonused ship with tech 1 core p launcher with sister probes. I only come across one or two sites in a week that i cant scan down in high sec.

Thanks for your reply. Being able to scan out most sigs is good to know.
I've already swapped one of the utility mids with an afterburner (I can swap the remaining one in station if I have to) and fitted an additional cap-power relay instead of the eanm. Also using beams now instead.
Fit looks like this now:
[Omen Navy Issue, Explo]
Heat Sink II Heat Sink II Capacitor Power Relay II Capacitor Power Relay II Medium Armor Repairer II Armor EM Hardener II Armor Thermic Hardener II
Analyzer I Y-S8 Hydrocarbon I Afterburners Cap Recharger II
Sisters Core Probe Launcher, Sisters Core Scanner Probe I Salvager I Heavy Modulated Energy Beam I, Imperial Navy Standard M Heavy Modulated Energy Beam I, Imperial Navy Standard M Heavy Modulated Energy Beam I, Imperial Navy Standard M Heavy Modulated Energy Beam I, Imperial Navy Standard M
Medium Salvage Tackle I Medium Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
Hobgoblin II x5

To be honest...why are you not considering the Arbitrator?
Unless I guess you really want the Navy Omen, in which case, carry on.

As an aside, it might be more efficient to buy and sell the items with the best isk/LP value, then buy a navy omen off the market.

But it's free if I buy it with LP!

Make sure you mine your own minerals and build all of the mods, and they'll be free too.

Posting to confirm that the Navy Omen was totally and absolutely free. Since LP was already made from missions, the minerals I had mined myself and the modules are self-made. This way it isn't an issue for me to lose it either. I would lose nothing since it was totally free.
Rite gusy?
p.s. it's doing it's job just fine :) Just happened to get my first faction mod from 'sploring. Help us to make parrots game related today! |

*ugh* free? How is it free? You ground your way through the missions, you spent the time to mine, you looted the mods... of of that which took time. Time is ISK, ISK is the grind.
NOTHING is free.

I think your sarcasm meter is broken û the last four posts before you more or less said the same thing, only not quiiiiite as directly.
Oh, and yes: all the ships you can get from the highsec-misison LP stores give horrid ISK/LP and are best bought off the market from people who can't be bothered with calculating the ROI. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

Honestly, I've done something similar with a Worm... works good for DED 3s, but not so well for things like Angel Vigil.
That said, for the Codebreaker/analyzer/salvager...
Always keep the salvager if possible, you'll use it on all sites that have NPCs. For the codebreaker and analyzer, keep one or both in your cargo hold, with the option of bringing it out when you need it. Unless a system has no stations, you can always bookmark the site (or sites) you probed down, dock, switch to the necessary module, and go back out. I have a probe drake which I use in a similar manner. When just running WH sites or hi sec DED 4s, I can use a shield recharger 2. If I hit a radar, I doc up, swap the modules, then head back out.
I do the same with my worm if I want to do light exploration.

Yeah this is what I am doing now. Works fine so far :) I am already quite happy with the fact that I only need one ship for everything, occasional swapping is no problem. Even though I have an implant now I seem to miss out on some of the harder sigs so I've got some training to do.

Honestly, with one ship (barring T3 ships), you'll never be able to probe everything down and still run the sites.
I have a Covert Ops Cheetah. It has 2 Grav Sig rigs 1 Sister Expanded Probe Launcher, using Sister probes.
I have the following skills: 4 in Covert Ops 4 in Astrometrics 3 in Atrometric Pinpointing (the one that improves signature strength)
Even with all of that, in hi sec, I still find the occassional sig I cannot probe down. Usually the sig starts at .7 or lower when I have the probes set to 32 AU (Sister Core Scanner Probes).
So I'm thinking it takes a lot to be able to scan down every site.

Don't you have Astrometric Rangefinding? :O
That is an important one.
Actually of the 30ish sigs I probed down with my Nomen, only one radar site couldn't be nailed down and on a few gravimetric sites I stopped probing when I saw what they were; could be those were beyond my skills:
Astrometric P.P. 3 Astrometric Rangefinding 2 Astrometrics 4
6% scanner strength with probes implant 1x medium gravity rig Sister's Probe launcher and probes
Still training up Astro PP and RF. Help us to make parrots game related today! |
