Given self-rule we will always choose our own destruction.
The sandbox has revealed the true goal of humanity: Blobs, unchecked aggression, and murder.
Bits of fact to back this up:
No Government: Players, free to do as they willed forged aggressive factions and sought to annihilate one another from the game, in this they were successful. When given complete freedom with no control from above the populace became the blobbers and griefers EVE is known for.
Small Government: Red vs Blue is a relatively large and successful corporation with strong leadership. Under that leadership players forged aggressive factions and sought to annihilate one another from the game. The blobbing and griefing is just as rampant within RvB as the rest of EVE.
The behavior of blobbing and griefing is the integral value of human life, and to stop that would end humanity as we know it. So BE HUMAN, go blob someone today!
It is your destiny. |

Actually its more like you are either with us or against us. The entity is always assimilating, consuming and destroying everything on its path. |

Player created alliances beg to differ...

A player created alliance consisting of two corporations eternaly at war with each other (and fighting with each other only to preserve both their existance and ability to freely fight only each other) and only each other by choice is not the example you are looking for.

'Birds of a feather flock together', however, just because you're a pessimist, that saying does not always mean what you think it means. |

TL;DW - 0/10 There are people in eve who get their kicks from killing you
They are, statistically much better at killing you than you are at not being killed |

Nah, that type of behaviour is a function of internet anonymity, it doesn't reveal anything "deep" or "true" about human nature.
In the real world, where identity is trackable (unless you go to extreme lengths to avoid detection), such behaviour isn't viable (or at least not to the ubiquitous level you find it in EVE).
If your EVE account were publicly tied to your real world identity, EVE would be the politest place you could find - "after you", "no, please, after you!"
