Hello all, I'm new to the game and was wondering if itÆs better to train my learning skills up right away or go for other skills first. I know the increased speed for training only lasts till a cretin point and IÆm trying to make the best of it while I can. Does the skill speed increase from the learning skills stack with that of the bonus for new players? And are they worth skilling up right away?

learning skills up immediately. Yes, skill speed increase from learning skills stacks. Basically, you will want to train your base learning skills to at least level 3 before training anything else, then training to be able to do whatever you like at a extremely basic level. For mission running, train enough gunnery or missile skills to level 1 or 2 as well as frigate level 3 until you are able to complete level 1 missions on your own, then go back to training learning skills. For mining, enough skills to use whatever frigate gives bonuses to mining or cargo-size for the race you fly, then go back to learning...
Do learning skills until you have all of your rank 1 skills to 5 and your rank 3 all to 4 (Some prefer presence to 3; others prefer all to 5). Either way, it's a long and boring, but well worth it in the end. It actually takes less time to train your learning skills then train battleship level 1 then it does to train directly to nattleship 1

read the skickies, but train learnings and memory and int to 4 then if you have cash get those advanced and train to 3 [or 4] then train percoption | willpower but 1st have fun - do the starter missions and train the skills you get and train for the ships you get
dont do 5/5/5 on the leanings 4/3 is good enough

i suggest getting a new toon. on the same account. gives you a couple of advantages in training. 2 times respec your attributes and double learning time til u rech 1,6 m sp use an outside program to plan your skilling (evemon is popular) consider getting +3 attribute imps (if you play pve only for starters) plan your skilling from the start. imp/mem skills first for basic support and perc/wp for weapons and ships. getting into a cruiser with t1 weapons shouldnt take longer than e week but if i were you i would spend the double learning bonus on learning skills only. u will be grateful after its done.

Do the 5 tutorials whilst learning some of those learning skills mixed in with the ones you need for the tutorials, is a good place to start.
But then you come to the crunch finishing off the learning skills, rank 1 learning skills to lvl 5 and rank 3 learning skills to lvl 4. Good luck with that.
Anyway I've found a way to make it less painful. Just log on and add to training queue and log off again and play something else. Looks like I'm in for reruns of Dragon Age.

Don't bother with the learning skills if you don't feel like it. You won't spontaneously explode. Use EVEMon to see if/where they get you short term benefits. -

This is why the learning skills are so bad :( The "GOOD PLAN" is ofc to get them done asap due to them helping you forever in whatever field you choose to explore.
However, how FUN is it really to spend the first days/weeks/months doing some really boring skilltraining instead of getting into new ships, new modules whatever that acctually improves GAMEPLAY.
My suggestion to OP is to do the learning skills when you got "time" for it.. Like, get into a cruiser and try your hand at running some level 2's or whatever you may choose thats acctually playing the game rather then waiting for the mandatory learning skills to complete before doing anything..
I got the "GET LEARNINGZ FIRSTZZ" advice when I started playing and that almost made me quit even before my trial expired due to the insanity of not being able to do pretty much anything besides waiting for them to complete.
Sure enough, you are able to do level 1's and whatnot with the skills you get starting out, but still, as a new player all those level 1-3 in core skills do help when you dont really have the hang of the game.

- buy a plex and get skillbooks and impants. - remap to full int/mem. - take 4 months off and train all your learning skills and cybernetics to V. - optional: also train your basic engineering, mechanic, electronics skills to V as well. Additional 2 months holiday from EVE.
You're ready to go!
It's the fastest way to skill up in the long run.

Yeh unfortunately it is best to get learning skills ASAP if you're in it for the long term.
I suggest getting EVEMon and do a 2 - 3 month plan that gets you into the basics of what you want to do and then it'll suggest to you how to optimize time with learning skills. If you're into PvE / PvP make sure you train for the Core certificates! Core Fitting and Capacitor are the most important get them to at least standard to start off and eventually go for elite. Don't worry about the Targeting one so much either.
If you're into Industry my advice is null :P

Bad advice if you ever want anyone to ever respect you in-game.

If you have a new character, do not train the learning skills over your enjoyment of the game
Yes getting Basics 4/ Advance 3 across the board ASAP is sound advice but does leave you a tad in limbo during your first couple of weeks. There is nothing wrong at all with just training them to Basics 3 and getting the skills to help you run missions faster/get a better mining yield/find combat sites etc and then training up the basics to 4 inbetween improving your flying skills during the inital 1.6mil
Yes you are going to want 4/3 as soon as you can, and eventually even 5/4 but don't put it above enjoying the game. ----------
Where can you end up with just 5,000isk and the Market Interface? I have no idea but I intend to find out: Drew Jerac's Log |

Yes.

Yes.
The fastest way to progress is to train all your learning skills to V first. Since most people don't buy the game to do nothing for 3 months first they usually mix learning skills and ship skills. Usually it's recommended to do Learning V and the others at IV (primary)/3(secondary).

Well you do want to train them quite a bit otherwise you'll eventually crash into the wall called "the end of the 1.6m double speed training". It severely hurts.
