Ahh, thanks for the feedback guys. I actually am unconcerned about the prob-ability of my ship, I just find jamming ships extremely annoying in missions (cause inefficiency as well...) and didn't need too much extra tank, esp. with those crystals.
And stoic, that sounds like a pretty good idea to me. That way I could swap out the cap recharger for a CN amp and then ditch the LG crystal set for something else, perhaps halos or even just regular implants... something less expensive in any case.

To get back to tanking, the Adaptive Shielding module provides less tank than the Amp module. (The Adaptive module gives you a 7th high slot for a salvager.) I have used a Pith Medium C on a Tengu, but downgraded it to a Pith-B small booster.
I was running a HML Tengu with an Adaptive Shielding module (shield resists) with a small Pith-B booster plus cap stable speed tanking and was tanking level 4s just fine if I killed webbing frigates quickly and was moderately careful with aggro'ing large numbers of cruisers and BCs.
The small Pith-B plus Adaptive Shielding plus speed tank is probably the minimum comfortable tank to run level 4s with. The only scary mission would be Stop the Thief with the EM cruisers and the two dozen zillion webbing frigates it spawns. Given that Stop the Thief begs to be blitzed (no time to salvage,) I would recommend running it with the Amp module instead.
It really doesn't take much to tank a Tengu for level 4s. A small Pith-B, an afterburner, and 3-4 T2 hardeners/SBAs are all you need.

The good shield boosters are simple expensive. I guess there's no way around that.
Well, I guess they list for 440mil sometimes, but I'd be surprised if they sold that high. The ones I've seen move have been <400mil, as low as 350... still not "cheap", but a lot less gankbait than the ~1.8b Gistum A-Type Medium that indeed would be the only real alternative when trying to drop the CCC.

You get what ya pay for in end. The Pithum A's are expensive because they are the best one to get. They are also less than half price of what they were when I bought all mine a year ago. The likelihood of being ganked in a Tengu is low because its quite hard to probe, an to be honest half the ppl who get hammered are silly because they mish in high traffic area's.
get away form hubs an you can fly a 80 billion isk CNR with zero threat if you so choose.
