Well I offered salvaging rights to some newbie he warped in but didn't trigger those deadly waves. ?
Is this working as intented? I remember one other newbie who warped in but triggered the waves? Am I missing something?

Been there done that.
Perhaps the Recon 3/3 change they vaguely alluded to in one of the recent patch notes was to gang member mechanics so they don't trigger the waves.
Was it a gang invite, was the one that popped an uninvited salvager?

I heard about a great trick today. This guy told me he warped into Recon 3/3 with an Orca and Hulk -- orca remote repping the hulk -- and proceeded to the final room, where apparently you can mine to your heart's content on many juicy ores.
Gradually, the first room filled up with the wrecks of ninja salvaging vehicles.

Uh, why bother with RR? Just carry the hulk in the orca, and fly in the miner with something that can take the hit.
