Funny how it is only the yanks which need help in working out eve time, same when planning op's as well......
Americans are too lazy to do the math so I helped them out lol
To be fair, it's a little trickier for us Americans work it out, as we don't live on a spit of land that barely encompasses one whole timezone.
even with this coment the americans worked out there lazyness because they have at least three timezomes they should be fluent in the math

Um, maybe it's because Greenwich Mean Time is in the UK and that's the only time you use there?!?!?! I live in Italy and it's only two hours behind GMT, but you DO realize that the US has 4 different time zones, not counting Alaska and Hawaii? Someone living in Florida is in a different time zone as someone living in Texas or Missouri or Louisiana or Illinois or Nebraska or California, etc. etc. Then with daylight savings time, you have to add or subtract an hour depending on the time of year, and even then not all states recognize daylight savings time, like Arizona. Also, the time changes in the US are sometimes at different times of the year from the time changes in Europe.
Next time try not to be such an ignorant tool with no knowledge of the world around you and think before you post stupid ****.
well its an sad example of ignorance of the world around us if somebody is not knowing his timezone and also a big lag in logic capabilities if he is not able to do a simple addition/subtraction

hm some other thoughts about the patch:
In the past we had a scrambled/deleted boot.ini, an gate disconnect bug, an devestating lag and so on after the patch.
Bets are open what new and funny bug will apply with this patch

hm why should we be extra nice to new players?
at first its a longstanding tradition to be nasty to new players and second why should they get the wrong expression that eve would be a nice place to be?

my guess take the posted UTC time subtract 7 from it (if you do not know how to subtract there are excellent tutorials to be found in the internet)

I did a short search and failed to find any tutorials, could you please link or explain how this miracolous thing is done?

-.- stupid brits >.< should be used by EVE time by now -.- and ccp continue using GMT !
No UTC != GMT. UTC does not use Daylight savings where GMT does. Daylight saving being the +/- 1 hour first and second hald of year.
did this also involves the leap secondes or do we have to add them manually? and when yes till when? |

No, you are wrong. GMT does NOT change at all for daylight saving time. When the times change, Britain moves to BST (British Summer Time) instead of GMT. GMT stays the same all year...
While correct, this is a truism, and meaningless. It's like saying that all red things are red. NO time zone changes, when put this way. EST is always EST, even when the areas that use it switch to EDT. BST is also BST even when Britain switches to GMT.
The point is, all time zones, even GMT, are based on UTC. GMT is defined as UTC+0. The fact that this GMT +/- nonsense ever gained a foothold is just an absurd anachronism. UTC replaced GMT as the baseline time almost 40 years ago.
Any application or database developer that wants to do things right, does them with UTC, because if you do use GMT and the system is located somewhere that observes daylight saving time, it will switch to BST and cause all kinds of mayhem.
GMT may be more commonly used, but UTC is preferable.
GMT is the average solar time at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich. UTC is an atomic time standard designed to be synchronized with GMT. They will not differ by any temporal interval that is likely to matter in your daily life, but they are NOT the same thing.
well you can say this much more simpler ... GMT was the first and only worldwide used time-standard. UTC is just born out of americany jelousy that they dont invented this standard |

I'm sitting here, like a moron, waiting for their promises to come true (18:00 UTC u say?) and with each passing second I realise they were lies ;( and it makes me mad cause i lost so much time
Every time a patch is applied to an MMO expect delays. The time they provide is only an estimate and if you still "sitting like a moron" expecting them being "on time" - only your fault :) UTC1800 is in 13 mins, they aren't even late, yet ppl already started moaning because none of 'em has a clue what UTC1800 even means, sigh
hm an obviouse case of: "Four of three ppl are bad at math" |

well all cynism aside:
I am working as an software engineer for over 25 years now. The manner CCP is handling customers is very bad. Doing such a long update, especially when they over the schedule, it is very very bad manner not to keep your customers informed.
Yes I know all the whining about "they giving you a update for free" ... all those ppl i like to tell grow up, own your own money ... we are customers and not petitioners paying CCP for charity-work |

*sigh*
every time with patches where CCP is involved the same drama.
Miscalculated downtime. Unexpected crashes (sorry as far as I know they now called DB issues) and after all when all is up and running ... bugs, bugs, bugs
Its always the same with those young puppies. Totaly excited about the stunning stuff they "invented" but totaly forgetting about the allday work of an developer which is not "playing around with stunning new stuff" ... its bug-hunting and customer-relation.
Well maybe someday I will notice that CCP has learend that a simple sentence like "Sorry we have miscalculated the downtime but when we applied the patch to the database whe noticed that it do funny stuff to xyz and so we try to hunt that down before we go sharp" is may be straching a bit on the reputation but is totaly understandable and will be understand by customers because they feel like they where taken serious in there (understandable) impatience |

the only good thing is that CCP' customers are players. If a company like CCP would have to compete in the free economy with other software developers ... hm with that attitude of the CCP-Employes and the thorowness they show every patch-day and the attitude the handle customers ... well they would be bankrupted on all the contract penalties they had to pay |
