...and realized as versatile as it is, I know I want to fly other ships as well.
anyway! To the point of this post... I'm wondering what sort of ships I should train for in the near future. I'm a gallente drone boat pilot able to pilot covops as well. Currently have over 4 mil sp.
Now what I like to do and what I would like to get into more (other than lvl4 domi) is exploration, solo pvp and small gang pvp, (like less than ten ships) wormholes, and I guess low-sec living in general.
I'd think myrm works great for all of that but it's terrible in wormholes unfortunately.
seems the question that comes to mind is what ships that I can currently fly, as well as may fly in the future, will work for most if not all of these activities?
Also in the future I would very much enjoy faction ships... But I can't choose between macharial and rattlesnake lol. I want to keep cross training to a minimum of course, so in general for this sort of thing, would it be more beneficial to cross train caldari or minmatar?
Keyword: EVENTUALLY... Lol at only 4 mil sp I don't plan on that very soon. But I digress. This one time at fat camp, i was flying a dominix, and then I was so hungry that i ate 3 planets and collapsed into a black hole, which ate my sig. |

4M Sp isn't much. Try specialising in a certain type of ship and train up your support skills. drone boats (Vexor, Myrm and Domi) can fulfill all your needs if you have enough skills (except wormholes as drones aren't useful against sleepers). also i don't know if it's really a good idea to fly a BS with only 4M sp as you are laking a lot of skills and are likely to loose the ship. ------------------ In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move. (Douglas Adams) |

Lol alright I suppose that's the answer I deserved... And also a good thing then that I've only flow my domi in missions solo and with corp mates.
came close to losing my domi one time, but that was the first time I flew it, and was in support of a corp mate doing the worlds collide mission in a drake (who did in fact lose his ship after we aggroed the entire last room) and I didn't realize there's a reason those modules are called ACTIVE hardeners.
needless to say my domi has only been in hi sec so far and with your reply it's apparent it should stay that way for some time.
when will I know I have enough support skills for vexor and myrm before I can effectively fly a domi or even an ishkur? Is this when I can use all t2 mods perhaps?
Lol sorry if this sounds like a silly question. But I digress. This one time at fat camp, i was flying a dominix, and then I was so hungry that i ate 3 planets and collapsed into a black hole, which ate my sig. |

Edited by: Galliana Foresta on 22/05/2010 20:33:06 As gimmicky as they may seem, take a look at the certificates and find out the requirements for your chosen ship/weapons - they can give you some real clues as to what you need to make each ship shine.
4m SP may not be much, but 4m specialised SP is a whole different kettle of turnips. Don't sell yourself short, but don't overestimate your abilities either. Check your certs, see what you need, and go from there. In the meantime, if you're happy and confident flying a Domi for most things, then stick with it. It's ugly as hell, but one of the single most versatile ships in the game.
Edit: T2 armour hardeners and drones are a necessity for the Domi and many other Gallente ships. T2 afterburners and MWDs, for example, are false economy imo, and guns are secondary on a droneboat anyhow. Mechanic, Engineering and Drones are where your SP should really be focusing for now, I think.

Best thing to do is this: Find hammerhead 2's, right-click, click prereq's, train what's needed. Find large armor rep 2's, right-click, click prereq's, train that, Right click Ogre 2's, (you get the idea).
That will give you a workable pve base which you should focus on for the time being. Then move on to propulsion mods, capacitor, electronics and whatever ships you want to fly for pvp.
If you wanna pvp in the interim with your corp or whatever focus on a plated vexor for a while, it's a great ship. Gallente is pretty easy on the SP if you focus on drones instead of guns early on. Download EFT and play around with fits to educate yourself further.

Alrighty, thanks muchly. Input is appreciated.
I can field T2 light and medium drones and I'm a few days from the T2 large re reppers. I'll just have to go from there then! But I digress. This one time at fat camp, i was flying a dominix, and then I was so hungry that i ate 3 planets and collapsed into a black hole, which ate my sig. |

This may and may not seem silly, but I didn't even realize there was such a skill as Combat Drone Operation until I could already field T2 heavies. Don't neglect that one; it really does help.

I'm in the same boat as you dude, I fly a drone boat Domi too, but I got 14.5 mil SP. Now, I'm tired of the shiny green ships and looking at either Amarr or Minmitar. Really don't get a special ship for the Gal.-Amarr skills so IDK but I sure do love those golden beauties! Maybe when I get the skills the way I want I'll spend a couple months doing either one's BS to 5/5 and guns to 5/5. Till then :)

Aye have fun with that, I agree amarr ships do look pretty beastly.
a little slow for my taste, but it's all about play style after all. But I digress. This one time at fat camp, i was flying a dominix, and then I was so hungry that i ate 3 planets and collapsed into a black hole, which ate my sig. |

Vexor and Arbitrator both spring to mind here as cheap and accessible ships.
Longer term you could also look at the Gila, Curse and Pilgrim.
Minmatar dont really do the drone boat thing, although lots of their ships have drone bays.
