I've been running a lot of Angel Havens lately, and looking to the future I would like to run sanctums too as they become available to me. However, having tried one, I have a question:
In the havens, everything spawns more or less on top of the warp-in, making a torp raven superb for quickly clearing it. However, in the sanctum I tried, rats spawned far away, sometimes as far as 100km, rendering my torps pretty much useless. Will rats in Sanctums always spawn this far away from me, or is there a trick to having them spawn on you?

I did alot of sanctums and i don't see any trick. They spawn at different distances from station/rings (usually pretty far) and sanctums as i saw don't suit torp boats too well. The orbit range of rats is about 40 km and u have to wait long time till they get in range of ur torps.
Said that u can make waiting time shorter by being near the station/central ring (depends on the sanctum type).
The damage they do is to high to take alone in T1 BS unless u r gonna snipe them and then it will take pretty long time.
Stick to heavens until u upgrade to faction/T2 BS.

Sanctums are more suited for bigger groups of players, even carrier support. If you want to make as much ISK as possible with 1-2 players havens are better even when you can do sanctums.

I have access to a whole range of different ships, including hac's, t3 and faction battleships. However, I'm just not sure if these can beat the torp raven doing havens, in terms of isk/hour. Since everything in Havens orbit within rage torp range, except 1-2bs in the last wave that are easily popped before they get out of range anyway, the killing speed and thus isk/hour is quite high. Changing to for instance a cruise cnr or a cerberus/tengu would mean a pretty severe loss in dps, resulting in less bounties.
I do not have much experience with sanctums tho, so if someone has some experience on how to make them more profitable than havens, please do tell.

Vargur, doubles profit, use barrage.

Sanctums are suited for Vargurs.

This actually doesn't work well against angels. A lot of ships target paint which severely increases the damage you take in a HAC.

Vargur looks like a good ship for the job, thanks for that. Guess its time to start cross-training! :)
Looking at battleclinic ive found some nice fits for it, but they all seem to use pretty expensive modules. As I do expect to lose the ship at some point, reducing the price of the fit seems like a good idea, if it is still viable. Does anyone know how a t2 fit Vargur would handle the incoming dps in a sanctum? I can also support it with a 2nd account running a salvage/logistics domi, if that is needed.

Well 800T2's in the high's using Barrage alongside 2 * tractor and one salvager
Mids, this is where it is worth spending a bit of ISK, a medium Pithum A booster alongside a Pith X type boost amplifier will perma run without cap mods or rigs but are very expensive and alongside 1 EM hardener, 1 Kinetic Hardener and 1 Explosive hardener will not be bothered in the slightest with the DPS that a sanctum throws out, fit an Afterburner as well.
You could upgrade to a gist C type large or similar and a lesser boost amp, or even go for 2 cheaper medium boosters, running one perma and boosting with the second to save cap, these type of setups will need cap mods or rigs, personally I prefer to use my rig slots for things other than cap rigs, when you have isk to spare you can then upgrade the booster.
Lows, I always fit a DC2 for the simple reason it gives an unstacked 12.5% resits to armour and shields and a whopping 60% to structure, if things go south that could save your ship.
3 Gyro's and 1 Target enhancer, some people like more TE's than gyro's but for angels 3 gyro 1 TE is ideal, you have 90km optimal + fall off there.
rigs 1 burst accelerator and whatever other you fancy.
HTH, play with EFT and check prices, the only things I would recommend getting faction/deadspace atm are the Booster and boost amp, checking prices some of the lesser variants are very affordable.
