I don't know if its just me or what but since 3007 my drones do not react the way they used to.....
Before that patch once drones commit to attacking a target and destroys it they moved onto a new target. Now when drones attack a target and is done with it, even if there are other ships hammering you they don't do skwat unless you tell them to do something.
I could understand this behaviour if we had a way of setting the way drones react to situations such as setting them to be "passive", but there is no way of setting this and it makes life a lot harder for drone users.
Can anybody confirm this?

I have the same issue. Drones return to orbit instead of attacking closest target. Its stupid when hunting, its stupid when pvping. ----------------------

Yeah, I'm one of the majority that agrees this was a knickers change. There should be some kind of drone behavoural AI setup menu to fiddle with I reckon. ------------

Just give drones an extra command "Guard" that makes them atack anyone who atacks either a drone or their mastership...

Yep same problem.
Appears that they set off and attack the first target you give them, then like you say, return and orbit. The only exception to this I've noticed is if one of them itself is attacked then it will retaliate.
Prefered it like it was before, that they attack the first target then speed off and attacked the next nearest target in range. |

Bizzarely they seem to attack automatically sometimes. If i'm being shot and I launch them the instantly attack whoever was shooting me, lock or not. Then hlaf the time the float about in space idle and half the time randomly attack something.
I have no idea what is wrong other than it being slightly broken.

Single drone retaliating doesn't help at all though, if a drone comes under atack and is hit the only way to save it right now is to scoop it or kill the enemy before they kill the drones, neither of which works if the drone decides to take on the enemy all alone...
Drones in squads should act as a squad.

Its about time those pesky drones got nerfed. I could take a ships targettin range down to less then 10km in my blackbird, eventhough the pilot cant lock me and shoot at me (unless packing fof's) the pesky drones do there own thing and attack. I think if you cant lock a ship then your drones shouldnt attack it.

thus removing one useful application of drones, i think not.... |

It'd be cool to add a Passive/Evasive/Aggressive/Guard switch to the drones.
Passive = Only attack when ordered to Evasive = Attack closest hostile target and orbit target Aggressive = Attack closest hostile target, but stop once in range thereby doing maximum damage (no tracking penalty) and being open to counterattack Guard = Guard target (good for mining ops)
... That's when I reach for my revolver ... |

Except the "agressive" setting would be worthless as drones have perfect tracking. Yeah, my drones did this too... except mine don't even return and orbit, they just sit around the can and wait to be ***** slapped. Often they won't even follow my attack commands when I give them. Quite annoying, maybe time to go back to the smart-bomb system. |

My grouped drones do several strange things anymore.
After finishing off the first target, some move on to the next one, some stop, some return and orbit. This happens randomly. I think it must be a bug in the AI.
I've just gotten used to manually ordering attacks after each target to insure they work as a team. It's a pain to do if you're getting pounded on at the time.
There used to be a bug with them some time back where they would attack roids after the last rat when mining, so I figure this is a bug also. It'll get sorted eventually, as there's lots of bugs more important right now. ________________________________________________ From deep in space where nobody hears my screams... At least I am not alone then!
Well one way or another something needs to be done about these drones cause its rather sad that you have to do all of it manually.
I think its time to file another bug report to see if this is really a 'bug' or if its supposed to be a 'feature'.
