OK, iv been using misiles for some time and would love to get better at long range(>30km)combat using rails or/and projectiles.
Whats skills to optimize for this?
How do I reduce the significanse of the keeping excactly at optimal range?
Later comes close combat with a blasterax :D

you need <size><type> turret (obviously) sharpshooter for extra optimal range, surgical strike for a 3% per level damage bonus, controlled bursts for non-projectiles to reduce cap usage, rapid firing... actually now I think about it you need all the skills. And they wont be as good as missiles.
Missiles were a bit overpowered before, now they are massivly overpowered. My advice is enjoy them utill they get nerfed back to their proper place.
(oh, and for the second question; carry a variety of ammo type, and be fast enough to dictate range)

Spoken like a true Minmatar. =)
You don't need high Motion Prediction for mid sized rails as long as you keep to your optimal. Besides, if someone gets close enough to use short ranged guns, no amount of Motion Prediction will save you. =)
Projectiles are a whole different story. But we're Gallante, so we'll forget about that for now.
Like above, train your <size>/<type> skill and Surgical Strike to increase damage. Sharpshooter can also help increase damage, as you can use a more powerful round since your skill will overcome the range penality.
Also keep in mind that mid sized guns have a penality when trying to track small targets. You'll have a much harder time hitting a frigate with a medium rail than if you were using a small one. Because of this, its a good idea to fill a couple high slots with smaller rails to use against frigates, keeping your bigger guns for cruisers and the like.
This is a big reason why cruisers and battleships still carry smaller guns. You'll be facing a fair share of frigates even in Level 4 missions. Its hard to justify a power hungry large rail when you can only use it against specific targets. That powergrid and cpu would go to much better use upgrading your armor or increasing your speed.
