Why would people cancel their orders before a patch deployment out of interest? I'm new to trading and this is something I hadn't even considered before!

Where can you end up with just 5,000isk and the Market Interface? I have no idea but I intend to find out: Drew Jerac's Log |

Patch days have a bad habit of eating things like orders, science/production jobs, ISK, items, boot.ini, ect
Make sure to set at least a weeklong skill, preferably longer.

I choose liquid before patch with no open orders, no inventory. Then be prepared to go shopping.

I'll keep my stuff running and see if something happens. This phenomena only happens once every half year, hence I must try it out! Join the annoying signature club! |

Nothing changes immiediately on patch day. None of the products change, not a damn thing. This is about market manipulation. Go about your business, modify your orders as the market dictates. Dont' stop informing the market. That would be bad.

What is the reasoning behind this? I've heard it stated before, but cannot recall.

Patch days are like playing football in a mine field. Sometimes it's fun and everything works out.

In the days following a patch, the stability of Tranquility can be spotty as CCP irons out bugs and performs other maintenance. It is possible that if a skill finishes shortly after the patch is applied, the servers may be down for an extended period, preventing you from queuing up a new skill and causing you to lose precious skill-training time.
edit: beat out by Kalrand!

There are people that still haven't closed out their buy orders prior to the patch? Fantastic!
