Alright folks just looking for something to plonk in empire that can run lv4 and 5 nicely on its own for when I have a bit of dt between pvp.
Im very new to missions despite being around for yonks, and would very much like a tech 2 or tech 3 cruiser that can do the job.
I can fly all but gallente tech 2 and 3 effectively and ideally would like a hac for the job or a strategic.
Fittings also appreciated.. nothing mad in cost though eh? Proving natural selection and Charles Darwin wrong since 1981.

You're not gonna fly lvl 5s solo as they are located in lowsec. You might get away with paying the local pirates to leave you alone. From what I've been told, the dps in lvl 5s is too much to tank without a logistics with you.
With lvl 4s, you can pretty much fly what you like.

I'm sure you can come up with a viable level 4 fit, anything with 400 DPS tank if fine for a t3 and as much DPS as you can squeeze out of it, definitely use the sub for 6 weapon hardpoints, I'd stay away from HACs while being capable of lv4s they are hardly practical due to relativly low DPS, although an armor tanked ishtar with lots of drone mods and a sentry damage rig works well.
A level 5 fit is going to be very different, that includes the rigs(you'll need t2 purgers) so you are going to need antother ship. You'll be needing 1700-2k DPS completly capless tank because of neut towers, the ishtar, nighthawk and rattlesnake are the best options, but the snake is the only ship that can reliably tank l5s of any faction. A passive prot or tengu can work but the NH or Ishtar are better by far.

So speed tanking is not an option then for lv5's? I can manage a 6/10 plex in my munin (with the obvious exception of the last bosses).
Well think I will look at setting up a tengu or loki for lv4's then and see how it goes, maybe find some mates to try out some lv5's with. Proving natural selection and Charles Darwin wrong since 1981.

some of these guys are gonna kill me for telling u this
1. a rattlesnake with t1 rigs should be sufficient for lvl 5. just make sure u eft it in advance and has around 3k dps tank to the damage type u'll be facing. (For tank, use these mods ONLY: Purger, Shield Power Relay, Shield Extender, Shield Recharger, Shield Amplifiers)
2. get lvl 5 agents that is one jump into low-sec. this way many missions will end up in the hi-sec its next to. |

No, you can't run a prop mod in l5s because of neut towers.

Wrong. Agents are in lowsec, missions aren't necessary so.

The DPS is nothing untankable, the real issue is that the energy neutralizing towers present in most of them rule out the usage of any active tank.
Which leaves a host of ships able to passive shield tank, popular ones being Nighthawk, Ishtar and Tengu, those being particularly well suited against kin/therm dealing rats.
A Drake can actually tank most them in full tank fit but does so little damage then that it would take ages.
No first hand experience with it but a Rattlesnake can fit a passive tank and deal enough dps to be an efficient L5 soloer.

Right at last, completely uninformative but right.

L5 missions - i get 50/50 highsec / lowsec missions.
The agents are located in lowsec but all you do is shuttle out to see him, accept a highsec mission then go and run it.
I run L5s (Gallente and Sansha ones) solo in a passive tanked Tengu (5 low slots, 4 sprs and 1 bcu) Takes just over 1 hour to run a L5 solo (75k LP + 20 - 40mil in tags)
You can also run these in a passive tanked Nighthawk solo, but you have to be selective what missions you choose.
Nearly all gallente missions are soloable (apart from carriers that need more DPS)
In short if you want to run L4s and L5s the Tengu is the ultimate solo boat imo....
tried and tested :)
