Hi devs, could you please go out and get Nvidia's 3D Vision and check it out for yourself.
EVE looks awesome in 3D, but to appreciate the greatness you have to do CTRL-F9. The main issues are not the interface windows.
The main issue is that: brackets red crosses indicating enemy ships the targeting spinner Drone icons friendly and enemy icons
- are all 2d and are overlayed in the foreground and it breaks the depth of the image.... crtl-F9 to remove the targeting spinner and other icons and it looks awesome!.
Awesome! I tell ya!
What I'd like to request/see in EVE, is the above mentioned items converted to actual 3d objects rather than simple overlays, that way they will be automatically converted to 3d and have the same depth as the ships as per ctrl-F9.
This should be an option so as not to screw up people with non-3d vision setups... eg so that the thick red crosses dont look like small red crosses when the target is far away....
The targeting spinner and brackets, it wouldnt make any difference if they are rendered smaller or larger (depending on their distance)...
I would really really appreciate some effort in this area and I'm sure that anyone else with Nvidia's 3d vision would appreciate the effort too.
The future is 3d, come onboard CCP!
TIA....

Only people who cant afford the 120Hz and Nvidia 3D Vision kit would say that.
3D is not a gimmick.... in 10 years time, every TV/projector/monitor will be running at 120Hz or higher, 3D glasses will be standard.
The only complaints about 3D is the glasses, but millions of people who go to see movies in 3D have to wear glasses and you dont hear them complaining about that fact when the come out of the movie...
If you've seen 'How to train your dragon' or 'Avatar' in 3D, and you didnt appreciate the difference, then you are a minority....
Now, for those people who are confusing the Nvidia 3D technology with the very similar technology available in the 90's have no idea... there is a good reason you need a 120Hz screen to use the Nvidia technology, thats because each eye gets a 60Hz image... the old technology didnt care what refresh rate your screen could do, and caused headaches, mainly because each eye was only getting 30Hz and the brain seeing the shutters... The other downfall of the 90's technology was that it was all 3rd party code, the games themselves needed to be fixed/patched to support the shutter hardware.
Nvidia 3D Vision is completely different.... 3D vision takes the existing in game 3D objects and renders both angles... so you dont need the game to be written to directly support the 3D hardware.... There are many issues with this method, but generally it works very very well.... FSX for instance looks awesome...
EVE looks awesome in 3D, its not a gimmick... but the objects which are not 3d but which are overlayed directly on top of the main viewport break the whole experience unless you ctrl-f9....
anyhow.... I know some people will just poopoo the idea because they cant afford the equipment and dont want anyone else to have more imemersive experience.
Basically, unless you have used the technology I am talking about... the Nvidia 3D Vision... then your opinion is just flawed because you just havent experienced it so you have no idea therefore your opinion is invalidated.

Edited by: Drake Iddon on 26/05/2010 12:34:56 I have Nvidia 3d vision and i must say it is beautiful at 1st and i do agree that brackets ruin it.
But it got boring after a while especially when living in nullsec. Also when in 3d its hard to concentrate on things your supposed to be doing.

Thier opinion isn't flawed or invalidated at all, saying things like this just make it seem that you aren't open minded. (even though, to be fair the other person who replied didn't exactly give an opinion base)
I'll support the idea that eve would be good with graphics options regarding this, but i dont support it as a top priority feature.)
TL;DR - For those who want to spend alot to get eyeball love, get it. For those who prefer to play the game and/or play out of empire, then i suggest not to use it.
(Tip: undock in jita 4p4 and look back at the undock ramps, MY GOD It's Beautiful if your not lagging)

I could probably afford it, and I also think its a dumb gimmick. :\

i have a pair of the Nvidia 3D vision glasses at the office already. we have been checking them out on and off for the last few months, and we are aware of the issues mentioned.
we want to support 3D vision but to fix some of the issues you mentioned require quite large changes to the UI, which is no small task believe it or not.
i would love to give you a date/expansion when they will be fully supported because i'm becoming a big fan of gaming in 3D, but i can't right now. what i can do is try to get you more information.

That sounds great, that you have the tech and appreciate that it can add to the game.... I'll keep playing regardless, but can't wait till this game gets extended / full 3d support. Thanks for the feedback, appreciated.

3D is a gimmick to separate the consumer from his/her money, and it works. I saw Avatar in 3D, and on a normal screen. The 3D was kinda neat in a "golly gee whiz" kinda way, but I don't feel the need to see it in 3D again, or any other movie for that matter.

this Nvidia 3D pack is not that expensive for those of us with lives, much like a surprising number of EVE players have i've found out. All one needs to afford the card along with a computer to run it is either a half-decent paying job (or particularly loving parent), and a love for video games.
I doubt he thinks it's a gimmick because he cant afford it, don't be stupid. No one cares about your technology.

3D is the future, best just get onboard and wait to see which format wins (could be stuck with VHS again). And bringing it to Eve could just be plain business smart, because it will bring players and with player comes the money.
I do not have 3D nor do I have the money to buy it yet, however IÆm happy that people who do have it can enjoy it within the Eve universe and donÆt go off playing other games to get their ôFixö.
Someone once told me that a 20mb HDD would be all I ever needed for storage space, and at the time that seemed reasonable now itÆs so absurd that it makes me laugh.
I would just ask that if the toonÆs faces are to be in 3D, can facial reconstruction be mandatory on all Caldari Actura males, we donÆt want to scare the kiddies now do we :P

And 3d glasses failed last time they tried to introduce them, how would it be different now? Until they make 3d that does not need glasses (which is already available, but gives you even more of an headache than with glasses, but new technology should improve that), i dont see 3d screens becoming popular.

Your wrong Furb Killer, less than 4% of people viewing 3d movies at the cinema raise any sort of issue and <1% report headaches. Do you think the Real3D people are stupid?
The technology has moved on and so should your views... the old technology as I've already pointed out, uses whatever screen you have, regardless of the refresh rate... Nvidia 3D Vision and the movies both use 120Hz refresh rates, and that has been proven to be the equivilent of a standard image at 60Hz. All the 3D ready TV's on the market today are 120Hz, specifically to ensure that people dont get the 'issues' of the old technology.... so if you get headache's watching a standard TV, you will get no worse watching a 3D movie or 3D on a 120Hz screen...
As I said, in 10 years time you wont be able to buy a TV which isn't 3D ready/120Hz... (and not 120Hz funny stuff/interpolation/dynamic frame creation - actual native 120Hz)... and your old 50" LDC will be sitting in the shed with the rest of the outdated technology like your computer LCD which currently runs at 60Hz.. which is why you need to go and buy a brand new screen @120Hz to actually use Nvidia's 3D Vision glasses...

As interesting as it may be, isn't it fair to say EVE has quite a lot of cleaning up to do prior to engaging in spinoff development paths. I'm sorry, but it's not like there is an established precedent for faith maintaining stablity, not to mention it's getting ever harder to keep starting players interested for longer then 6-7 months.
