Watching one of the many developer videos it was mentioned that in DUST friendly fire would be, "turned on.". That is good news to me. I think it adds an additional level of realism to the game. However, while playing a match of Battlefield 3 today I was reminded of something that I think has the potential to ruin the game play experience of people playing DUST: the moron who endlessly griefs players are there own team.
Listen, I think it would really cool to have that player who is really a spy for another mercenary corporation turn the tide of battle at a critical juncture - that's what EVE is all about. But given the environment that DUST is being dropped into (console FPS market) there are sure to be plenty of degenerate low life's that want nothing more than to satiate their gaming experience by ruining that of others. ...I think I heard a Goon say that once.
So here is my proposal to keep friendly fire on, yet also curb potential griefing.
When you destroy a vehicle or kill a member from your own side during a match, your respawn timer is increased. Each subsequent time it happens that timer is lengthened exponentially.
The ramifications of this would be: 1. You need to be careful where you point your gun - just like in real life 2. You can still be an agent of the enemy side. You just need to be selective of when you choose to backstab your teammates 3. You can still feel free to grief players on your team. You just may find that you'll be spending the majority of your time waiting to respawn.

How about the Commander in the MCC is able to pull the plug on his ability to respawn ? Its quite logical, he would be able to limit his access to his clones if he starts to shoot his own team. |

Something does need to be done ASAP. IMHO it would be far more effective to defend by joining the attacking force then backstabbing.
- Not only you can get rid of the "enemy" faster & more effectively since you're spawning next to them & don't have to penetrate their field of fire,
- You also demoralize them (like terrorists), which also hampers their ability. At a certain point, team members will just give up fighting hard & chat until the map is over.
- The back-stabber takes up a team slot, so now a 16vs16 map now is 17vs15
I have a few other ideas to help hamper Friendly Fire grievers & idiots from ruining people's fun:
- People's total FF damage, final blows, & FF/enemy ratio damage available for viewing &:
- ...after one or more of the above item have surpassed an amount in a match, you get a temporary flag on your profile in the lobby/matchmaker, that won't be removed until an hour or so of on-map gameplay, or a certain amount of enemy kills (easily workarounds available, but a start)
- ...on both Dust & Eve-side, team matching can filter out people above a user-adjustable ratio &/or number of damage & friendly kills for the past 5 matches & for the history of the character
- ...contractors or the program can revoke any bonuses &/or payouts to those who FF, perhaps as part of the signed contract, or revoked manually mid-game
- FF characters on the battle field get a (temp) flag above their name/head
- FF characters can be voted off by their teammates
- after your FF threshold in a match is surpassed, you can no longer call in air strikes or vehicles, or use vehicles or turrets.

I think the best option is:
After a threshold of FF is reached, other members of the team have the option of initiating a vote-kick.
This avoids vote-kick griefing because only people who prove themselves to be suspect due to friendly fire are eligible to be kicked. |

all these are awesome ideas, but i think call of duty mw3 had it the best if you friendly fire you get killed yourself you take all the damage and i think an ISK penelty or loss of dropsuit fit or vehicle fit would be enough to not FF teammates i mean think about it you atempt to kill friendly players while in a vehicle that vehicle plus a few fits get blown up or while on foot that dropsuit plus a few penalty dropsuits plus you die have to wait for respawn and a security status may add to this as well as in it being calculated by the number of times you atempted TKing you lose sec status and therefore had a mark on your clone for the duration of its life -sorry for all the grammatical errors i just type as i think and dont really think in punctuation and spelling |

I've got an evil suggestion that both boosts griefing and makes it safer to play.
Allow the guy in charge of the battle, the one piloting the MCC and placing turrets, the ability to force anyone to commit suicide. This would obviously only be corporation battles, but it would be be funny and awesome.
plus I was thinking only members with roles could have this power. Basically if you have to power to kick someone out of your corp, you should have the power to kill them.
plus if you work you're way up and becoming important in a corp and go fight in a war. but your a spy. You'll get one epic chance to reign terror on your team.

Just make the one flying MCC and playing the role as the field commander be able turn off the clone generating object for players on the field. So if u see one shooting on friendly the commanders turn off the clonning ability on that field and so when u kill him he doesn spawn again. |
