is it me or does the new scorp hull look a lot like something the gallente would create. I mean get into space and look at 1, it's all rounded and smooth and freaking symmetrical. I think caldari lost some of their uniqueness - people insist that old hull was fugly, why would a machine of death and destruction need to be pretty. Next thing you know you'd have hello kitty painted on the side of it.

I have to say, im loving the new hull compared to the previous. Never liked the size of the scorp, nor the lopsided 'centre'. Made 5 degree scanning with the Widow a real *****.
BUT!
Why did it have to resemble a scorpion? In the Eve Lore, they cant remember earth, or how they got here or something. BUT....they rememeber the exact appearance of a scorpion?
And why is it it HAS to look like a scorpion? Before it had the tail, and now it has the pincers..WHY?!
The crow doesnt look like a bird. The Orca doesnt look like a whale. The Worm doesnt look like a worm. So why does a scorpion have to look like a scorpion? :(
Mind you, i still like it.. I just like to complain.

DON'T TOUCH MAH SCORP!!!
That said... Asymmetrical design doesn't mean "bunch of randomly put together clunky boxes with no sense whatsoever". Look at the Thorax: asymmetric but effective and nice too look at.
Want caldari examples? Heron, kestrel, merlin (though only slightly) are all asymmetric but still functional, not clunky and pleasing designs. The condor is asymmetric as well, but it's pretty much 5 polygons only, not much detail there, though it's still more pleasant to look at than the old scorpion.
The new scorpion is asymmetric as well, though in the details only. The fact is that asymmetric design, in particular, an asymmetric hull, rarely makes sense, in particular because it makes propulsion vectoring much more difficult (try rowing a boat with 3 rowers on one side and just 1 on the other...) and it also makes more difficult to balance the rotational pull during maneuvers since not all the parts of the hull are solicited in the same way.
Also, while you may see caldari ships as "asymmetric", I have to say that most of em are almost completely symmetrical. Kestrel, merlin, heron, caracal, drake, ferox, rokh... To some degree even the raven can be considered mostly symmetrical.
The point here is that: clunky = bad, sleek (not necessarily rounded, and the scorpion is nowhere near being a gallente ship) = good. Asymmetric = bad or good, depends on how you pull it off. I'm fine with either if the final result is good. Scorpion wasn't.

Totally agree.
I think Eve ship design can grow on you if you let it. I mean, I've been floating around in a Domi with no turrets showing and no engine flares, resembling this wierd bluish fist floating through space and it doesn't bother me at all anymore. I'd still give anything to have it look like the mega or hype, but for now, its ok...
Its like the most comfortable shoes in the world are also the ugliest. Not everyone can stand to wear them, but those who do end up liking them regardless of everyone frowning at them. Sadly, its also those same shoes that end up "disappearing" once you get married.

The tail is functional. As a EW boat, the emitter arrays are moved far from the interference of the engines and main hull.

New scorp looks great.
The "science" part of "science fiction" has a real hard time adjusting to asymmetrical ships. Doesn't make sense. Nor from a manufacturing or maintenance standpoint. Fix all the asymmetrical ships!
Don't care if they're sleek or blocky, round or angular, or what is painted on them.

Having just found a Blackbird in a hangar the other day ( surprise ships! ) I don't think it's the Minmatar who randomly stick parts together to make ships. Make the most of limited resources perhaps - putting it politely - but at least their ships weren't "designed" by some CEO's 2 year old with a stack of play blocks. Now the kid has grown up a bit & he's watching the caldari equivalent of dinosaur documentaries.

Nooooes, do you realize how heavy real-time fur renders are?! Although it would look awesome to have something like a beard trailing after you ship (now that we don't get engine trails anymore...)

I like the new scorp too. Starting to look like the caldari actually have some ship designers. Now if only they could do something to fix the Moa/Gila/eagle/Onyx hull, if you thought the old scorp was scary, look at that.
